1 of 2024's Scariest Horror Movies Endorsed by Stephen King Comes to Hulu This Month

Last year, the slasher movie In a Violent Nature debuted in theaters, earning a Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes along with praise from horror mastermind Stephen King. For those who didn’t see the film in theaters — or on Shudder following its theatrical run — In a Violent Nature will soon be made available to watch on Hulu.

Per Hulu, In a Violent Nature will start streaming on Thursday, April 22. When it was released last year, King said about the film in a social media post, «IN A VIOLENT NATURE: If you need a slasher movie, this one will do the job. It’s leisurely, almost languorous, but when the blood flows, it flows in buckets. The killer in his mask looks like the world’s most terrifying Minion.» The film also has a Certified Fresh score of 78% on Rotten Tomatoes.

In a Violent Nature puts a spin on your typical slasher movie. It’s set from the perspective of the supernatural, masked killer, a departure from the usual formula for these kinds of films. This has garnered enough success for a sequel to be put into development, spawning one of the newest horror franchises.

In a Violent Nature Puts a Twist on Slasher Movies

The official synopsis for In a Violent Nature reads, «When a locket is removed from a collapsed fire tower in the woods that entombs the rotting corpse of Johnny, a vengeful spirit spurred on by a horrific 60-year old crime, his body is resurrected and becomes hellbent on retrieving it. The undead golem hones in on the group of vacationing teens responsible for the theft and proceeds to methodically slaughter them one by one in his mission to get it back — along with anyone in his way.»

The film was written and directed by Chris Nash. It stars Ry Barrett, Andrea Pavlovic, Cameron Love, Reece Presley, Liam Leone, Charlotte Creaghan, Lea Rose Sebastianis, Alexander Oliver, and Friday the 13th franchise alum Lauren Taylor.

“I feel like there’s definitely room for more Johnny adventures,” special effects lead Steven Kostanski previously said about continuing the story, per Variety. “I wouldn’t mind seeing him end up in suburbia at some point. Just the feeling of walking around with this character in a back alley — somewhere while people are just living their lives — is pretty spooky. I would entertain that. And then by part four, maybe he goes to space. We’ll see.”

Nash added, «To my producers’ chagrin, I’m always like, ‘No, it takes place in the middle of nowhere, so we have to go into the middle of nowhere. We have to make our days so much longer than they need to be.'»

In a Violent Nature starts streaming on Hulu on April 22.
