10 Classic Manga That (Surprisingly) Still Haven't Gotten an Anime Adaptation

One of the best parts about being a fan of anime and manga is knowing that most of one’s favorite manga are likely to get an adaptation. While fans might argue over the animation or the pacing, it’s still fun knowing most of the classic manga eventually get anime versions. Yet, there are plenty of great classic manga series which have somehow never received an anime adaptation.

The reasons often vary from series to series, but being a great manga simply doesn’t guarantee getting an anime version. Sometimes the creators don’t want an animated version to happen. Other times, the series might be critically acclaimed, but it doesn’t have the popularity to consider spending the money necessary to animate it. It’s always a surprise when a beloved manga doesn’t receive an adaptation, though fans still have the original masterpiece to enjoy.

10 Classic Manga That (Surprisingly) Still Haven't Gotten an Anime Adaptation

A Bride’s Story is an incredible historical manga that’s been running for nearly twenty years now. The series follows Amir, a 20-year-old woman who’s been promised to a boy eight years younger than her. Alongside covering their relationship, A Bride’s Story also follows other couples in Central Asia, centering in on how marriage changes their lives.

A Bride’s Story covers a unique time period and location in history for manga, which ideally would make it a great choice to become an anime. The series has been well-received by critics and fans alike, winning awards while being highly rated by readers, yet even with so much source material it’s never been touched. Presumably, this is because of the main romance having such a large age gap in a realistic storyline, but it could just as easily be that seinen manga series that aren’t about action typically don’t get adaptations unless they’re extremely popular.
