Not every character in One Piece is a combatant. Not even all pirates seek out battle on the high seas. Sometimes, they have other roles on the ship that function more as a support than anything else. Doctors and nurses often fall into this category. However, there are quite a few pirate doctors that do fight, and some of them are even the strongest members on their crew.

Many of these doctors, like Tony Tony Chopper and Trafalgar D. Water Law, apply their medical skills in combat. While it’s hard to accurately determine exactly how powerful some of these characters are, their positions in their crews and the crew’s prestige can help narrow it down. While characters like Kureha are certainly powerful in their own right, doctors that aren’t pirates or aren’t interested in battle aren’t a part of this list. The Doctorine may be very strong and able to handle unruly patients, but she doesn’t participate in many fights directly.

Other characters, like Masked Duece, are likely quite strong, but there just isn’t enough canon information to get a real read on them. It should be noted that there are only two canon doctors in the Marines and none in the Revolutionary Army, so the pool of physically strong doctors is mostly limited to pirates. However, he did die when the bombs he strapped to himself went off, and he would have died because of the Amiudake mushroom that Chopper gave him.

Hiriluk doesn’t seem to have been a proper pirate despite having a pirate flag, but he was a decently successful thief in his youth. He didn’t stop stealing because he couldn’t anymore but because of his change in morality. On top of that, Hiriluk is shown to be a good shot with several different kinds of guns. On top of that, Hiriluk clearly knew his way around explosives. However, considering the harm that Hiriluk caused, he wasn’t a good doctor.

When working for Moria, Hogback did surgery on corpses in order to create ideal bodies for Moria to implant shadows into. Not only is Hogback a member of the Mysterious Four, but he’s an essential part of the process of creating Moria’s zombie army. As such, although Hogback has no combat skills for himself, he does have a slew of zombies that obey his orders. While not a traditional strength, it does make Hogback a pain to deal with in battle.

Gerd hasn’t shown off much of her strength or her ability as a doctor in the anime yet, but there are some easy conclusions that can be drawn about her. For one thing, as the doctor for a group as rowdy as the New Giant Warrior Pirates, she must be capable enough to keep her crew alive and hale. On top of that, she does have the natural strength that comes with being a giant. She’s physically more powerful than most people on the sea.

Gerd also carries a giant axe, which shows her willingness to fight. That, plus the fact that giants age more slowly than other races, indicates that she’s spent plenty of time learning how to fight. This strength was acknowledged by Buggy’s Delivery Service when she earned an S-Class ranking as a mercenary. These conflicts, including the Edd War and the fallout of Roger becoming the Pirate King, are evidence that Crocus must have had some strength. Not every member of the Roger Pirates was expected to be overwhelmingly powerful, so it’s possible that Crocus sat out of most of the fighting. However, Crocus wasn’t only a part of the crew but also made his home at Reverse Mountain, which is a place that sees a lot of conflict.

He is surprisingly durable and has more endurance that ir would first appear.

Doc Q was strong enough to cause damage to an injured Whitebeard during the Summit War. He is also one of the Ten Titianic Captains which means he has plenty of his own followers among the Blackbeard Pirates. He may not walk on his own, but he does swing around a large scythe. However, physical abilities aren’t where Doc Q’s greatest strengths lie. In combination with the diseases he spreads with his Devil Fruit, Doc Q also uses his knowledge of chemistry to create bombs.

Chopper has grown more and more confident as he faces more battles in the anime. Even when he may be afraid of a fight, that doesn’t stop him from being willing to confront Emperors. Plus, his Rumble Balls allow him to manipulate his Devil Fruit in uniquely advantageous ways.

Chopper is an incredible doctor who can come up with the cures to diseases in the midst of battle. This is between him having to confront various opponents in battle, too. While Chopper’s main passion is finding a cure to every disease, he still puts the work in to become stronger. This was shown when he manages to gain control over his monster form during the time skip. It’s been a bit since he’s gotten a power up of his own, but Chopper is constantly applying his skills to make better Rumble Balls to help in a fight.

What is known it that he’s a trusted member of the Red Hair Pirates, and he’s the one who reminded Shanks about Bartolomeo. Hongo must keep track of Shanks’ territories.

During the Summit War, Shanks managed to end the war just by showing up with his crew. Although they were a small group and were just busy dealing with Kaido, they were enough to get the Marines to back off. Hongo didn’t hesitate to walk among them. This confidence and the size of Shanks’ crew both make it highly likely that Hongo is another powerful member. Hongo may be just be a doctor on his ship, but he is on the crew of an Emperor.

Garp without hesitation. He uses that strength to protect Whitebeard’s remaining treasure, Sphinx Island.

As a doctor, Marco has a shortcut that few others have. The Bird Bird Fruit, Model: Phoenix gives him flames of rejuvenation that can be used to heal both himself and others. On top of helping others, these flames also make him a difficult opponent in battle because he’s constantly healing himself. During the Raid on Onigashima, Marco is a crucial ally both for his defense against diseases and the strength he brings with him.

Both of these skills were further enhanced by the Op Op Fruit. Law prefers to use his Devil Fruit as his main form of combat. He even uses his cursed blade, Kikoku as a supplement to his Devil Fruit abilities. This has been quite effective for him in most of his fights.

Law’s use of the Op Op Fruit culminates in him awakening the Devil Fruit. The new abilities he gains access to allow him to take down Big Mom with only the help of Eustass Kid. While neither of them are as powerful as Monkey D. Luffy, they are still fearsome pirates. Law does end up defeated by Marshall D. Teach’s ambush on Winner Island. Despite losing the battle, his ship and most of his crew, Law is able to injure Blackbeard with ease.
