Fans have been waiting years to see the X-Men finally and officially join the MCU, and that time is finally here. With Avengers: Doomsday on the horizon, fans can’t help but theorize about what the future will hold for individual X-Men characters. Marvel has dozens of potential heroes to pull from the X-Men, but some of them have more star power than others. In fact, several could hold down their own MCU movie, telling a story that fans would fall in love with.
The X-Men are famous for having a varied set of characters, complete with different backstories, abilities, and the works. Wolverine’s had some time in the spotlight, but there are plenty more mutants who have stories worthy of a movie. It would be great to see the MCU bring them to life.
10 An Iceman Movie Could Use His Powers in Lots of Way
Bobby Drake is a Long-Running Hero Worthy of a Solo Adventure
«Since when did being a mutant become a crime, friend?»
Bobby Drake, aka Iceman, is an iconic member of the X-Men team. He may have already made his live-action appearance, but fans would love to see him obtain a solo movie within the MCU. His live-action story began when he was a teen, and it was nice to see him grow into his powers a bit. That said, the Iceman of the comics has become incredibly strong over the years, and for a time, readers even thought he was invincible.
Iceman has a long and storied history within Marvel Comics, and his power levels have undergone significant changes, all for the better. Bobby has worked with dozens of Marvel teams, not just the X-Men, and thus, he would make a solid foundation for any new group the MCU is considering. That includes the Champions, Marauders, X-Factor, Defenders, Excelsiors, etc.
9 Magik Could Be One of the MCU's Most Powerful Magic Users
Illyana Rasputina Is a Mutant Sorceress
«See ya, villains! Don’t do anything in Limbo, I wouldn’t do! And watch out for demons!»
Much like Iceman, Magik has made a live-action appearance (in New Mutants); however, fans want to see her make a splash in the MCU. Magik is a unique character, even among the X-Men, as she is both a mutant and a sorceress, giving her a distinct powerset to work with. Her backstory includes time spent trapped in Limbo, where she mastered her powers and magic.
Naturally, fans would love to see Magik’s backstory unfold in a solo movie. There’s a lot of potential here, especially since the MCU hasn’t really explored Limbo yet, giving the creative team that would theoretically be in charge of this adventure free rein. It’s worth noting that Magik is the little sister of the very iconic X-Men hero, Colossus, who has more recently appeared in Deadpool’s movies.
8 Nightcrawler Is One of the Most Popular X-Men Characters
Kurt Wagner Is the Group's Teleporter and a Fan Favorite
«Poot?! Oh no! I went ‘Poot’ and I didn’t teleport! Where’s the Bamf?!»
Nightcrawler is a beloved Marvel character, and while he has appeared in live-action films, the X-Men movies never did much with. While he serves as the group’s teleporter, he’s also a kind and caring individual who’s arguably the heart of the X-Men. Nightcrawler was introduced in the 1970s and has been a major character ever since, so many fans would be thrilled to see him on screen.
On top of that, Nightcrawler has a rich history and numerous stories that could be adapted for a film. Movies could cover his time in the circus or even his family history. Since he’s the son of Mystique, the MCU could tell all kinds of interesting stories involving his other family members. Whether they opt for a family drama or a daring rescue story, the possibilities are endless.
7 Dazzler Could Star in a Unique Superhero Movie
Alison Blaire Is Famous for Making a Difference Through Other Means
«A lot of people will see you only for what makes you different — and not for all the good things about you — things that make you a human being just like them! And if you let them, those people will make you into what they think you are! They’ll force you to be a toy… a clown… or a monster… or worse.»
Alison Blaire is better known as Dazzler, and she’s a different type of hero. She has always tried to make a difference in her own way. Most recently, Dazzler got a solo comic series that allowed her to go on a world tour. Her songs were meant to connect the world, human and mutant. It didn’t go quite as planned, but it’s safe to say she still made a difference.
If the MCU is looking to tell different mutant stories, Dazzler should be at the top of the list. A Dazzler tale could be very different yet perfectly in keeping with Disney’s lineup. Think about it; Dazzler is the singing princess of the X-Men universe, so she’s the best of both worlds for Disney. A solo movie or series could really let her run away with this concept.
6 Bishop Could Star in a Time Travel Movie
He's a Mutant from a Dystopian Future
«If you let rage and hate over what happened define your life… then inside, in your heart and soul, you’ll find yourself just as dead.»
If the MCU is looking to give a varied perspective across the mutant experience, Bishop deserves to get a solo movie. He hails from a dystopian future, having grown up in a mutant concentration camp from the 21st Century. It’s safe to say that while Bishop is a hero through and through, he has had his ups and downs with the X-Men, as his personal experience has given him a unique perspective on life as a mutant.
Ideally, a Bishop solo movie would focus on time travel and would serve as his introduction to the X-Men. However, the character has also played a major role in many other major Marvel events, so there’s a lot the MCU could do with him later on. They could even pair Bishop up with other time-traveling mutants, like Cable.
5 Rogue's Power Makes Her a Sympathetic Character
Anna Marie LeBeau Has a Long and Complicated History in Marvel
«You don’t understand! My past is my future! I can’t escape what I am… there’s nothin’ you or anyone else can do. That day will be with me for the rest of my life.»
Anna Marie LeBeau, better known as Rogue, has already made her debut in live-action format, and thankfully, she has also been the center of many X-Men animated plots. However, there’s still vast potential for her live-action journey. The Rogue portrayed in the Fox movies was interesting, but not the version most comic readers are used to seeing. To start with, she was pretty underpowered.
In the comics, Rogue first appears alongside Magneto’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. With time, her character grows and changes. Fans would love the chance to see her story unfold on the big screen. Best of all, Carol Danvers plays an (unwillingly) important role in Rogue’s transformation to becoming a hero, and she’s already in the MCU.
4 Cyclops Is Frequently the Leader of the X-Men
Scott Summers Is a Powerful Hero With Many Family Ties
«All I can think of is that somewhere something’s burning. And somebody’s losing something precious to the flames.»
It would be a crime to list X-Men worthy of a solo series and skip over Scott Summers, aka Cyclops. He’s a fan favorite and often pictured as the iconic leader of the team. He’s appeared in live-action already, but fans are still eager to see how his story plays out within the MCU. Ideally, fans want to see a version more akin to the comics or animated series.
Beyond all the obvious reasons to hand Scott a solo movie, he has shockingly deep familial ties in the Marvel Universe. The Summers family tree includes Corsair, Vulcan, Adam-X, Havok, Askani, Cable X-Man, and the list goes on. Likewise, he has a few notable relationships under his belt, which fans are well aware of. All things considered, his tale could become quite dramatic.
3 X-23 Could Step Into Wolverine's Shoes
Laura Kinney Has Taken Many Mantles Over the Years, Including Wolverine
«There are many ways to justify something that is wrong. but they do not change the fact that it is wrong. There are few things more precious you can take from someone than their free will.»
Laura Kinney may have recently made her way into the live-action films, including an appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine, but her fans still want more. Her story is dark and complex, starting with her creation. Laura was created using Wolverine’s DNA, and while the adaptation touched upon that, it altered many of the details. Fans would love to see her full backstory come to light in a solo movie.
Since Laura’s introduction, she’s gone through a lot, including swapping mantles a few times. She’s been Wolverine (with Logan’s blessing), X-23, and Talon. The latter is the mantle that she’s currently using the most. If the MCU is going to give a solo movie to Laura, bringing some of her supporting characters, like Gabby, along for the ride would be appreciated by many.
2 Gambit Almost Got His Own Movie
Remy LeBeau Is a Thief Turned Hero
«Hasn’t been your night, eh, chère? Or maybe it has — considering how often I am here to rescue you.»
Gambit is one of the X-Men who’s been getting a lot of love lately. He was portrayed by Channing Tatum in Deadpool & Wolverine, and many fans were thrilled by the cameo. That excitement likely stems from the long-teased Gambit solo film that never materialized. Maybe this time, with the MCU in charge, that dream could finally become a reality.
He’s an absolute heartbreaker that fans love to read about. Gambit was first introduced coming to Storm’s aid, and since then, he’s built quite a reputation. Once a member of a thieves’ guild, he’s now a hero in his own right. From the sound of things, Channing Tatum is eager to reprise the role, so fans have good reason to keep hoping.
1 Storm Is One of the Most Iconic X-Men
Ororo Munroe Truly Is the Goddess of Thunder
«You spoke once of power. Little man, you do not know the meaning of the word!»
If the MCU is going to start handing out solo movies to the X-Men, Storm better be on that list! Ororo Munroe, aka Storm or the Goddess of Thunder, is one of the most powerful X-Men, full stop. She’s a powerhouse to herself, and that’s just the beginning. Storm has many ties throughout the Marvel universe, and that could mean many interesting stories for her solo movie to follow.
Over the years, Storm’s backstory has expanded to include her early years as a thief, allowing a movie to tell a complete story. A Storm MCU solo movie could also incorporate other X-Men characters she has a close connection with or one of her many love interests, like Wolverine! No matter what path the MCU takes, fans would be thrilled to finally get a Storm movie and see this unforgettable character get the attention she deserves.
