With many games and numerous books, the Halo series is full of brave female characters who risk everything to save their species, homes, or loved ones. So much so that some of these characters made the ultimate sacrifice while fighting to defend their people.
From Spartans to scientists and AIs, these characters not only show their bravery through firefights, but they are also smart soldiers, proven to be great strategists, leaders, and incredibly intelligent within the UNSC or other factions in Halo.
12 Veronica Dare
- Debut: Halo 3: ODST
An Intelligence Officer for the UNSC’s ONI, Captain Veronica Dare is known for her determination to complete the mission, even if it means delaying her wedding. Dare served with her now-husband and his squad of ODSTs, Alpha-Nine.
With the help of Alpha-Nine, Veronica rescued the Huragok known as Virgil from enemy forces, which had important information that helped humanity in the war against the Covenant. She is also known for wearing a UNSC Recon helmet, an iconic helmet in the Halo fanbase.
11 The Librarian
- Debut: Halo: Cryptum
Thousands of years before the current story in Halo, there was a civilization known as the Forerunners. First-Light-Weaves-Living-Song, also known as The Librarian, was one of those Forerunners, and thanks to her, there can actually be a Halo story.
The Librarian is responsible for the Conservation Measure, a project that ensured life in the universe would continue after the war with the Flood and the firing of the Halo rings. Of all the species that the Conservation Measure saved, she had a favorite: humanity, which she believed should be the next to carry the universe’s responsibility.
10 Tul 'Juran
- Debut: Halo: Shadow of Intent
Tul ‘Juran made an impact in the Halo universe by becoming the first female Sangheili to join the Swords of Sanghelios. After her father and brothers were killed by a San’Shyuum Prelate, she joined Rtas ‘Vadum and his ship, the Shadow of Intent, seeking justice for her family.
Tul not only became a great warrior, but she also became a scion/guardian of her house and defended it during the Great Schism. Her actions moved the famous Arbiter so much that he began the process of allowing females to join the Sangheili military ranks.
9 Sarah Palmer
- Debut: Halo 4
From Marine to ODST to Spartan, Sarah Palmer was a veteran with numerous tours and successful, risky missions before she became one of the first inductees into the Spartan-IV program.
While the Spartan-IV program takes in adult subjects with less extensive augmentations, it doesn’t mean they can’t be as lethal or great leaders as those from the previous programs. Palmer was a vital asset to the Master Chief and the UNSC against the Didact and his forces. She is also currently the commander for all Spartans aboard the UNSC Infinity.
8 KAT-B320
- Debut: Halo: Reach
Catherine-B320, also known as Kat by her Noble Team squad, was a member of the Spartan-III program. While still being recruited as children, the difference from the Spartan IIs was that these children’s parents had been killed by the Covenant.
Catherine’s father was killed in the battle of Harvest, and her grandmother during the fall of New Harmony. After becoming a Spartan, she joined Noble Team and was the brains of the squad. Intelligent as well as brave, Kat was killed during the fall of Reach, fighting to save the planet and its people.
7 Linda-058
- Debut: Halo: The Fall Of Reach
Linda-058 is another member of the Spartan-II program and of Blue Team, the same squad that Master Chief belongs to. She is known as the best sniper in the UNSC and as a great solo-operative Spartan, aka a Lone Wolf.
During the Fall of Reach, Linda was hit by plasma in the back of her head and was considered dead. The Master Chief, however, took her to a cryo-chamber where she was frozen for a while until she was revived by a surgery performed by Dr. Catherine Halsey.
6 Kelly-087
- Debut: Halo: The Fall Of Reach
Kelly-087 is a member of the Spartan-II program and is known as the fastest Spartan in the Halo series. She is not only a faster runner than the other Spartans, but she also has extremely quick reflexes and is great at quick thinking.
After the Spartan augmentations, Kelly was close to death. However, she recuperated and became one of the best Spartans from the program. She is a member of Blue Team, and just like the rest of that team, she is known for her loyalty to the squad. Blue Team has been together since they were initiated into the Spartan program as kids.
5 Lucy-B091
- Debut: Halo: Ghosts of Onyx
One of the most tragic and emotional characters from the Halo series, Lucy is a member of the Spartan-III program. She belongs to Gamma Company and is known to be one of the shortest Spartans in the UNSC. But don’t let her height fool you, the Spartans in Gamma Company received additional augmentations that need to be controlled with drugs.
Lucy suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder after Operation: TORPEDO, where she was one of two survivors of an entire Spartan company. She currently has a vital role as security on the shield world Onyx and has been making progress with her trauma, which left her mute for years.
4 Miranda Keyes
- Debut: Halo 2
Daughter of two legendary characters in Halo, Captain Keyes and Dr. Halsey, Miranda Keyes had the bravery of her father and the intellect of her mother. She was a naval officer with great leadership and strategic abilities in battles, but this didn’t stop her from taking an SMG and engaging in firefights against aliens.
She was a key leader in the war against the Covenant, especially during the battle on Earth in the events of Halo 3. She was also an important figure during the events on the Ark, where, unfortunately, she made the ultimate sacrifice.
3 The Weapon
- Debut: Halo Infinite
The Weapon is an AI created from scans of Dr. Halsey’s cloned brain, with the sole purpose of capturing and retrieving the rampant Cortana. She would assist the Master Chief in the search, and after the successful mission, she would be deleted.
However, we know the Master Chief wouldn’t allow that. After the job is done and Cortana is no longer a threat, The Weapon continues to be Chief’s new assistant and partner. They even decide to give her a new name instead of just “The Weapon.”
