A Texas teenager survived a lightning strike while playing video games after electricity traveled through his family’s home and into his gaming setup.
According to KPRC 2, 13-year-old Vlad Skuridin was sitting at his computer desk gaming in his bedroom when the current passed through a metal part of his desk and struck his abdomen.
His father immediately called 911 after hearing his screams, but when emergency medical crews assessed Vlad, they found that he did not need any treatment.

“I was just sitting here, everything was going fine. I was playing games, I was not expecting anything. There is a metal part right here, and my skin was touching it, so I got shocked,” said Vlad.
“I just jumped out really fast, and I started screaming. It was crazy, I honestly thought I was gonna die,” the 13-year-old continued. “I did not think I was going to survive that. I don’t know how I survived it.”
Firefighters later determined the electrical surge had traveled through the home’s wiring, caused a small fire in the attic, and made a hole in one of the walls.
Although the teenager escaped serious injury, Vlad said the experience has changed the way he looks at life.
“I’m feeling fine, but I’m still a little shocked and dizzy. Not from the shock, from the lightning, but just everything that happened here is crazy,” he said. “Anything can happen at any moment. You just have to be ready for it. You’ve got to be nice to everybody. It can end whenever.”

Local law enforcement has also warned the community to avoid using corded electronics during thunderstorms, citing risks of electrical currents passing through them.
This isn’t the only lucky break that has made headlines this year, as on July 6, customers at a New Jersey store miraculously escaped after part of the store’s roof collapsed during heavy rain and flooding.
