Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the most beloved RPGs ever for a multitude of reasons. One of those reasons is the incredible characters in the game. Your companions, in particular, are fantastic. Everyone has their own favorites. Many love the kind-hearted berserker, Karlach.
She is a very entertaining character due to her quick wit and general wholesomeness. Additionally, she has a fascinating arc that involves a quest for revenge and a confrontation with her own mortality. Kratos from the God of War series isn’t as caring or wholesome as Karlach, but they share some similarities in combat. The two are powerful berserkers who wield large weapons, are capable of taking out multiple people simultaneously, and are often fueled by rage.
Kratos has featured in a bunch of games, but the 2018 action-adventure title is a good choice for Karlach fans. This is because, like Baldur’s Gate 3, it showcases some strong, emotional storytelling as Kratos goes on an adventure with his young son. At first glance, Cyberpunk may seem an odd recommendation for Karlach fans. After all, it provides a very different setting from Baldur’s Gate 3 since it’s a sci-fi RPG. However, a big part of Karlach’s story revolves around her mortality. She knows she’s going to die and has little hope of avoiding it. This is a similar situation that the main character from Cyberpunk, V, finds themselves in.
Early into the game, they end up with another personality in their head, and in a few weeks, it’s set to overtake V’s body if the protagonist can’t find a way to stop it. So, there are some similar narrative threads in V and Karlach’s personal tales.

Karlach is rare in that she is a physically imposing female character who is also playable. Another game that offers this option is Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, where you can choose for the main character, Eivor, to be a woman. She is an incredible warrior and one of the most powerful protagonists in the AC series. This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise since she is a Viking. This also means she utilizes some of the same sort of weaponry as Karlach.
Her story is a bit different from the BG3 character, though. Eivor is leading her people into England and trying to make a settlement there. This means traveling to different regions to form alliances while engaging in combat, doing some climbing, and utilizing stealth.

There isn’t a character from The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow who is a large berserker with a fiery temper. However, the main character of this point-and-click adventure game shares a voice actor with Karlach. So, Thomasina Bateman is voiced by Samantha Beart.
Beart is such an integral part of why Karlach is such a great character, as their delivery is really what makes some of Karlach’s best quotes so great. She is also responsible for bringing the elegant Thomasina Bateman to life in The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow.

Chrono Trigger is a turn-based RPG where you roam around with a party. One of those party members is a female warrior named Ayla. She is from many years in the past. So, she doesn’t have excellent language skills, but she is the chief and main protector of her village.
Like Karlach, she is a very strong and fearsome warrior with a kind heart. Therefore, if you’re against her, you are in trouble, but if you’re her friend, she will protect you. These same things can be said about Karlach.

Tales of Arise is an RPG that revolves around two worlds, Dahna and Rena. By the start of the game, the Renans have taken over the Dahnans. You play as a Dahnan slave who is trying to free himself and his people. Karlach’s background isn’t completely different.
She was also a slave. Her master was Zariel, who forced her to fight in the Blood Wars. Because of their past, both characters harbor a lot of rage that can be unleashed at times. They also both have connections to fire. Karlach is infused with flames, while Iron Mask from Tales of Arise uses fire in combat.

Heavenly Sword is a hidden gem from the PlayStation 3 days. In it, you control an incredibly talented female warrior called Nariko. She has a very different physical frame from Karlach, but she has a similar level of competence in battle. While her story isn’t as unkind as Karlach’s, she still has a tough time. She was born in the same year that a great warrior had been prophesied. Because she was a woman, her birth was mocked, as nobody thought she could be a great warrior. In fact, they thought she was a sign of doom. So, Nariko has to prove them wrong.

The Last of Us Part 2 is one of the more divisive games of its generation. What would even be more divisive is comparing the game’s most controversial character, Abby, with Karlach. That said, there are some similarities. Both of them are large, muscular women with a thirst for revenge. Their revenge plots are seen a little differently, though, since the person Abby is going after is a beloved character.
The key is, however, that both Abby and Karlach’s lives have been turned upside down, and they want their tormentor to pay. Yet, this is only part of the story of The Last of Us Part 2. The other main character, Ellie, also has her own revenge plot going on in this action-adventure classic.
