Everything you need to know about hunting and harpooning in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced.

Hunting and harpooning animals in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced isn’t the most exciting of activities on offer in this pirate adventure, especially when there’s sea battles to be had and a luxurious Manor Hideout to upgrade, but it is important for upgrading Edward’s gear throughout the story.
To help you with doing that, I’ve explained everything you need to know about hunting and harpooning in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced below.

AC Black Flag Resynced Hunting explained
Hunting in Black Flag Resynced applies to animals found throughout the land masses on the map. You can see exactly which animals are available to hunt in each region by hovering over the icon for that area on your map. By zooming in even further, you can see their exact locations on that island in some instances.

For example, if you hover over the Cape Bonavista area on your map, and you’ll see symbols for all the animals you can hunt there; jaguars, howler monkeys, and wild pigs. Whereas in the Great Inagua, you’ll find white jaguars, iguanas, and wild pigs.
All animals that can be hunted in Black Flag Resynced and the resources they give you are as follows:
| Animal | Drops |
|---|---|
| Crocodile | Crocodile Leather |
| Deer | Deer Hide |
| Iguana | Iguana Leather |
| Hutia | Hutia Hide |
| Howler Monkey | Howler Monkey Skin |
| Red Howler Monkey | Red Howler Monkey Skin |
| Capuchin Monkey | Capuchin Monkey Pelt |

I’ll update this page as and when we know of any more animals in the game.
AC Black Flag Resynced Harpooning explained
Harpooning in Black Flag Resynced applies only to animals you can hunt for in the ocean itself, such as whales and sharks. To take part in harpooning, you’ll need to scan the oceanic parts of your map for harpoon icons, then hover over these to see what particular target is available for hunting.
For example, the below image of the ocean just off of Castillo de Jagua has a Humpback Whale available to hunt.

When it comes to harpooning, you’ve a limited amount of harpoons and health to use to take down an animal. Once your harpoons run out, your chance at catching that animal is over unless you visit another harpooning spot for that creature, or until it spawns again.
On top of that, Perfect Shots are increasingly important for taking down animals with high health bars, such as Humpback Whales. This requires you to throw the harpoon at the target as it your reticle emits a pulse. You can also make this activity easier by upgrading your harpooning gear via a Harbourmaster, in the same way that you would upgrade your ship.
All sea creatures that can be harpooned in Black Flag Resynced and the resources they give you are as follows:
| Animal | Drops |
|---|---|
| Bull Shark | Bull Shark Skin |
| Great White Shark | Great White Shark Bone |
| Hammerhead Shark | Hammerhead Shark Bone |
| Killer Whale | Killer Whale Skin |
| Humpback Whale | Humpback Whale Skin |
I’ll update this page as and when we know of any more sea creatures in the game.
How to use animal skins in AC Black Flag Resynced
Hunting and harpooning is very important in Black Flag Resynced if you wish to upgrade Edward’s gear, as each upgrade – whether it’s for health upgrades, an improved pistol holster, or an increased smoke bomb capacity – requires pelts and skins from animals.

For example, to upgrade Edward’s Pistol Holster (which you do via the Crafting menu in your inventory shown above) so that he can hold two pistols, you’ll need to go about gathering two Rabbit Pelts first. Similarly, to get Edward’s first health upgrade, you’ll need two Iguana Leather, and so forth.
