Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is a remake of the 2013 open-world pirating adventure, giving this instalment in the assassin series a fresh coat of paint. I’ve detailed some tips and tricks for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced below, which will help you with getting started and ultimately making the most of your adventure.
- Synchronize Viewpoints — You should synchronize every viewpoint you come across to have a huge catalogue of fast-travel points, but at a minimum, grab one in every key location you visit as part of the story. This makes travelling back to hub areas after completing quests and so forth significantly faster.
- Deviate from main quests — This is completely optional, but as soon as you have unrestricted access to the map, I recommend deviating from the main quest for a while and completing Templar Hunts, Naval Contracts, Officer Quests, or generally going hunting for collectibles and other treasures. By doing this, you’ll build up a catalogue of fast-travel points and with some luck, upgrades, early on in your playthrough and you’ll be kitted out for a while to come.
- Upgrades are your bread and butter — Second to the above tip, finding and applying upgrades becomes increasingly important in Black Flag. There is no leveling system here or skill tree to siphon through. Instead, you’ll need to hunt for Buried Chests, money, and basic materials so that you can upgrade Edward’s kit and his ship, the Jackdaw, for future endeavours.
- Upgrade the Manor early — Speaking of upgrades, you can upgrade your manor house – also known as your Hideout – in Great Inagua from quite early on in the game, and you should do so. By setting up defenses and upgrading the amenities at the manor, you’ll be able to receive more passive income as you barrel through quests, and can even unlock new upgrades for your ship and more.
- You don’t have to use Stealth — Okay, the Assassin’s Creed series may all be about stealthing around various cities as a swift, agile assassin without being seen, but you don’t actually have to play by the rules if stealth isn’t for you! You can go in all guns blazing if you want; just be prepared for a challenge, and the chance that you could end up outnumbered by soldiers, guards, and pirates. Know when to pick your battles, and know when to flee to safety and seek out anonymity before continuing whatever task is at hand.
- Use the Swivel Gun on weak points during Naval Combat — Whenever the weak point of any enemy ship is exposed, do not neglect the ability to use your ship’s Swivel Gun to target and fire at it. This might seem obvious, but just in case it isn’t, you should definitely be doing it. It helps make light work of ships you wish to sink or board.
- Don’t always pay the Harbourmaster for ship repairs — If your ship needs repairing in a pinch, you can pay the Harbourmaster to have it fixed up. That said, if you instead board enemy ships, you’ll be able to repair your ship for free using the resources supplied to you. This saves you a trip back to land if you’ve more ships or a fort you wish to take over, but of course, if your ship is so low on health that you might not survive the next sea battle, it’s probably worth returning to shore.
- Hover over named locations to identify resources — If you’re looking for a specific resource for an upgrade, such as a particular animal hide, hover over locations on the map to see what you can find there. There’ll not only be a list of collectibles you’re yet to gather, but this will also tell you what animals and resources can be gathered there, making gathering upgrades for yourself that little bit less time-consuming.
- Use Eagle Vision — When using Eagle Vision to scan your surroundings, objectives are highlighted green, treasure is highlighted orange, and collectibles are highlighted white. In any new environment, it’s worth using your Eagle Vision to scan for and collect any resources in your surroundings. Who knows, you might bag yourself a brilliant new pistol or a new ship upgrade!
