Ace Ventura’s infamous rhino prop is being auctioned off

One of the most infamous comedy props of the 1990s has gone to auction, with the mechanical rhino from Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls now up for grabs.

The prop, used in the film’s iconic scene where Jim Carrey’s Ace Ventura emerges from the rear of a fake rhinoceros, is being sold by Propstore as part of its Planet Hollywood Collection.

The listing describes it as an oversized mechanical “butt birth” rhino created for the 1995 sequel, giving collectors the chance to own a full-scale piece of one of the movie’s most recognizable gags.

How to buy the Ace Ventura rhino prop

The mechanical rhino is listed through Propstore’s Entertainment Memorabilia auction, where potential buyers can view the lot and place bids through the company’s online platform.

According to the listing, the prop measures roughly 128 inches long and around 80 inches tall, and was constructed primarily from fiberglass with foam elements used for parts such as the legs and tail. The listing also notes signs of production wear, including chipped paint and scuffs accumulated over time.

The prop is estimated to fetch between $4000 and $8000 at auction.

Collectors interested in the item will need to register with Propstore’s auction system before bidding. Once registered, users can track the lot and submit bids through the site as the auction progresses.

The prop comes directly from the Planet Hollywood collection, which has supplied numerous film artifacts to Propstore’s auctions over the years.

As of writing, the movie memorabilia has recorded six bids, the highest at $4,000. Bidding for the lot ends on March 25, so anyone interested still has time to source the funds for one hell of a party piece.
