Actor To Voice Scooby-Doo for Netflix Series Has Been Cast – Report

A new update about Netflix’s developing live-action Scooby-Doo project has shifted attention toward its evolving production timeline. The report sheds light on fresh details tied to the series’ early rollout plans, offering a clearer sense of what audiences may expect next. Interest in the reimagined take on the classic franchise continues to grow as the show moves steadily toward its debut.

Frank Welker to voice Scooby-Doo in live-action show as well

According to a report by Nexus Point News, Frank Welker will voice Scooby-Doo in Netflix’s upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series. Welker, who began voicing Fred Jones in 1969 and Scooby-Doo in 2002, returns to lend his voice to the iconic Great Dane in this new adaptation.

Netflix announced the series in March and named Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg as showrunners. The production team has reportedly started casting teenage leads and is currently conducting screen tests, sources claim, adding that they plan to begin filming next year in April in Atlanta.

The official logline describes a darker retelling of the classic franchise: “A modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and their very special dog. During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.” (via Netflix)

Frank Welker has voiced numerous iconic characters, including Megatron and Soundwave in The Transformers, Abu and Rajah in Aladdin, Nibbler in Futurama, and Garfield in Garfield Gets Real and Garfield’s Fun Fest.

Appelbaum and Rosenberg executive produce the live-action series through their production company, along with others such as Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman via Berlanti Productions. André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner also executive produce through Midnight Radio. Warner Bros. Television and Netflix co-produce the project.

Netflix has not announced a release date.
