After Series Cancelation, Suits LA Star Heads to Popular Netflix Show for Next Project

NBC’s Suits spinoff, Suits LA, was canceled earlier this year after just one season, but one of the show’s stars is heading to another series. Actor Bryan Greenberg, who played Rick Dodsen in Suits LA, has been cast in the hit Netflix comedy Emily in Paris, which is returning for a fifth season.

Per Deadline, Greenberg, who has also appeared in the film Bride Wars, and shows like How to Make It in America and The Mindy Project, will play Jake, an American expatriate living in Paris. Greenberg will join French actor Michéle Laroque (Better Days) as a recurring character for the fifth season of the series, which currently has a 64% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Greenberg Joins a Cast that Includes Minnie Driver

Greenberg’s Jack character and Laroque’s character, Yvette, are two of three new characters set to recur in Season 5. Minnie Driver was previously announced to be joining the cast as Princess Jane in the series starring Lily Collins. Returning for Season 5 of Emily in Paris are Paul Forman as Mindy’s (Ashley Park) love interest, Nico, and Arnaud Binard as Sylvie’s (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) husband, Laurent G.

Emily in Paris debuted on Netflix in 2020 and has earned six Emmy nominations since that time. The series comes from Darren Star, who is behind massively successful shows like Sex and the City, its spinoff, And Just Like That…, and Beverly Hills, 90210.

Why Was Suits LA Canceled?

In May, Greenberg’s Suits LA was canceled ahead of its final episode. Fans quickly launched a successful renewal campaign to save the series, which has yet to find a new home. After the cancellation, NBC executive Jeff Bader addressed the matter at a press conference. At that time, per Deadline, Bader said, “It’s so hard to talk about shows and which ones we’re bringing back.”

Ultimately, Suits LA was canceled due to its poor ratings and bad critical reception. “Suits LA had a very short run, but it really has not resonated (with audiences in) the way we thought it would,” admitted Bader. “There can be many, many reasons why it hasn’t resonated, but it’s just not showing the potential to grow for us in the future, unfortunately. Those are the decisions we had to make,” he said.

As for Emily in Paris, the popular Netflix series was renewed for its fifth season quickly after the second half of Season 4 premiered in September 2024. When Season 4 of the series debuted in August 2024, it managed to top the Global Top 10 chart with nearly 20 million views in four days.

Fans of the series should be aware that one series regular will not be back for the fifth season. In April, it was announced that Camille Razat, who was in the first four seasons of Emily in Paris, would not be returning for Season 5. Razat played Emily’s former friend, Camille, and main rival for Gabriel’s (Lucas Bravo) affection.

Emily in Paris is expected to return for its fifth season sometime in 2025. The first four seasons are streaming on Netflix.
