A new Stranger Things VR experience, called Stranger Things: Catalyst, has been announced and promises to be a «groundbreaking experience» for VR and allow fans of the show to face off against the creatures of the Upside Down world. Catalyst is being created by Sandbox VR’s internal AAA gaming studio, in collaboration with Netflix, exclusively as a Sandbox VR experience. The experience will launch later this year, coinciding with the release of the final season of Stranger Things.
According to a press release, Catalyst will be a full-body VR experience, similar to Squid Game Virtuals and Rebel Moon: The Descent. In the experience, friends can gear up together and face the supernatural threats of Hawkins. Players will also be able to explore iconic locations from the series and wield unique abilities.
A New Stranger Things Game Is Coming To Sandbox VR
Players Will Be Fully Immersed in The World
Sandbox VR offers VR experiences at several in-person locations across the US, Europe, and Asia. Tickets and bookings can be completed online, usually recommending between two and six people for each experience. «The success of our previous Netflix collaborations has shown us the incredible potential of bringing beloved content into virtual reality,» said Sandbox VR Founder and CEO, Steve Zhao. Season five of Stranger Things is highly anticipated, with its Season 5 announcement already breaking records.
Zhao said part of the reason for introducing a Stranger Things VR experience was because of the IP’s likable characters and interesting world, saying: «Stranger Things, with its rich universe of supernatural phenomena and compelling characters, provides the perfect foundation for a truly groundbreaking VR experience.» The Stranger Things experience is being touted as «the next evolution in Sandbox VR’s mission to deliver unprecedented social VR experiences based on the world’s most popular entertainment properties.»
Stranger Things: Catalyst Is Teasing A "Groundbreaking Experience"
VR Has Come A Long Way
Sandbox VR’s experiences are well-made, and usually offer a more immersive experience than other VR experiences that can be had from your home. Adding Stranger Things to its growing catalog should please fans, and give them an opportunity to virtually explore the series that took the world by storm back in 2016. While there haven’t been any specific confirmations about the experience, being able to wield powers and fight the forces of the Upside Down is exciting.
The price for each VR experience is $65, and bookings can be made online. With another huge IP getting a VR experience, plus the release of the final television season later this year, fans of Stranger Things have a lot to look forward to, and hopefully, this new VR experience truly delivers a «groundbreaking experience» for fans.
Stranger Things is a Netflix series set in the 1980s, where the mysterious disappearance of a young boy leads a small town to uncover secret experiments and supernatural forces. A significant focus is on a peculiar girl who may hold the key to the unfolding mystery.
