Ahead of Superman, audiences are revisiting, or perhaps watching for the first time, David Corenswet’s previous big screen outing, 2024’s Twisters. The disaster movie is currently climbing the charts on Prime Video.
Per FlixPatrol, Twisters is currently No. 5 on Prime Video’s U.S. Top 10 Movies list, sitting just below The Accountant 2, The Accountant, Oblivion, and The Beekeeper, all of whom are making their debut on the list. Twisters has jumped up three spots from yesterday, where it was at No. 8. Coincidentally, No. 8 is where Twisters is currently sitting on Prime Video’s Top 10 Overall list for the day, coming in under the series Clarkson’s Farm, Motorheads, and The Better Sister and the aforementioned four movies.
Serving as a standalone sequel to the 1996 disaster movie Twister, Twisters was directed by Lee Isaac Chung from a screenplay by Mark L. Smith. «Haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado, meteorologist Kate Cooper (Daisy Edgar-Jones) gets lured back into tornado-chasing by her friend Javi (Anthony Ramos) to test a groundbreaking new tracking system. They soon cross paths with Tyler Owens (Glen Powell), who has a less traditional approach to chasing storms. When multiple life-threatening systems converge over central Oklahoma, Tyler, Kate and Javi put aside competitiveness to save themselves and civilians from impending doom,» reads the synopsis for the disaster movie.
Joining Powell, Edgar-Jones, and Ramos in Twisters was Brandon Perea, Maura Tierney, Sasha Lane, and Corenswet, who co-starred as Scott, Javi’s business partner at the mobile tornado radar company StormPAR. Twisters was one of last summer’s biggest box office hits, debuting with $81.3 million domestically and ending its theatrical run with an impressive $371 million worldwide.
David Corenswet Will Lead the DCU as the Man of Steel
Corenswet may have only had a supporting role in Twisters, but he’ll be front and center in Superman as the titular Man of Steel. James Gunn wrote and directed the superhero blockbuster, which marks the official start of the DC Universe. With a runtime of just two hours and nine minutes, Superman will have a lot of ground to cover in introducing audiences around the world to this fully realized and lived-in universe that has known about the existence of metahumans for hundreds of years.
While Superman will be the central focus, the movie will also introduce several other major superheroes from the comics, such as Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl, Anthony Carrigan’s Metamorpho, and Edi Gathegi’s Mister Terrific. Other characters who are expected to play a larger role in the DCU moving forward are Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr., Sean Gunn’s Maxwell Lord, and María Gabriela de Faría’s The Engineer, the latter of whom will be part of The Authority movie, which remains in development at DC Studios.
Twisters is currently streaming on Prime Video, while Superman is scheduled to hit theaters on July 11.
