After more than a year of uncertainty, the future of the RWBY franchise has been secured, with an all-new installment for the series now officially in development.
Showrunner Kerry Shawcross confirmed via a video posted on the official RWBY YouTube channel that RWBY Volume 10 is now in development, revealing that the team is «super deep in the early writing and planning stage.» Shawcross, however, added that there is still a long road ahead for Volume 10 and expressed his gratitude to fans for their patience. The announcement comes on the heels of several positive developments for the previously troubled franchise.

closure of its production studio, Rooster Teeth, by Warner Bros. Discovery after several unsuccessful attempts to sell the studio off. Rooster Teeth’s general manager, Jordan Levin, announced the news in a memo, citing the shutdown due to «challenges facing digital media resulting from fundamental shifts in consumer behavior and monetization across platforms, advertising, and patronage.»
While the studio’s shutdown was a huge blow for the RWBY franchise, fans received a positive update four months later when it was announced that VIZ Media had acquired the rights to the RWBY IP. The publisher took over responsibilities for the series’ production, distribution, licensing and consumer products. At the time, Shawcross expressed his optimism about the partnership, stating, «In talking with VIZ, they’re also very excited about this. They obviously care about where the show is now, but they also care about where the show came from. And they want to make sure that we can continue this story.»
Hope returned to fans when it was revealed on Feb. 5 that Rooster Teeth was making a comeback. Co-founder Burnie Burns had acquired the company’s remaining assets through his independent studio, Box Canyon Productions. While RWBY was not present in the company’s development slate for 2025, the press release at the time alluded to renewing production for Rooster Teeth’s classic shows.
Rooster Teeth’s comeback was followed by another positive move concerning the franchise’s accessibility. On April 15, the entire RWBY library received a new widespread digital release. Every volume of the series became available on platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Microsoft Movies & TV, Google TV and YouTube. The entire series also arrived on Hulu for streaming on July 5.
RWBY follows the adventures of four main heroines: Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna and Yang Xiao Long. Their story unfolds in the world of Remnant, which is under constant existential threat from monstrous, soulless beings known as the «Creatures of Grimm.» Over the course of nine individual volumes and 116 episodes, the series chronicles their quest to vanquish these monsters and protect their nation. The franchise was created by Monty Oum and produced by Rooster Teeth’s in-house animation studio.
