Amazon has apologized to an 80-year-old who was sent more than 100 deliveries from the shopping giant, despite not even having an account with them.

Getting a parcel from Amazon is pretty much a daily occurrence for most people. The signature brown boxes, covered in Amazon Prime stickers, might surprise other people in your house if they’re unaware that you’ve ordered something.

Yet, in the case of 79-year-old Pat Hurley from Elgin, Illinois, she received more than 100 parcels from Amazon without even having an account on their website. Elgin told ABC7 News that she had started receiving parcels from Amazon over the summer, even though she hadn’t ordered them.

Despite having her address on them, the parcels had other people’s names on them. Yet, when she checked with her neighbors, none of them recognized the names of the people on the orders.

She told ABC7 News that the deliveries had made her “nervous” about things, especially as she received around 20 parcels on one day.

“If somebody’s going to show up… I’m disabled… Alone in the house. And all this is happening. I’m getting a little nervous. You know, I mean, you don’t know what’s going on in this world,” she said.

On February 28, the shopping giants apologized to Hurley and her son, and removed the packages from her home.

As per ABC7, Amazon is “working toward a long-term resolution to prevent this from happening again,” and has opened an investigation into the mysterious parcel drop-offs.

Amazon has been under fire in recent days following an announcement about a change to its Wishlist feature. Now, users’ addresses are available to third-party sellers, with Amazon recommending that buyers get a PO box to maintain privacy.
