Amazon seems to be making a major push in AI by greenlighting three animated AI shows using a new GenAI Creators Fund.

AI is significantly increasing in popularity with various video games using it for their landscapes or entire visuals, books, anime, and art, all utilizing it in different ways. So, it was only a matter of time until we saw it making its way over to film and TV.

Well, Amazon MGM is fully embracing that by announcing a GenAI Creators Fund and revealing three upcoming AI-animated shows for Amazon Prime.

As originally reported by Variety, Amazon Prime has created Project Nara, a “collaborative workspace” that integrates AI agents with currently used production tools like Adobe, Unreal Engine, Blender, and more.

What it’ll do is combine the two with the aim to “empower human creativity, and allow TV shows and movies that would not have been possible before,” as explained by Albert Cheng, MGM’s COO.

“One of the biggest complaints we hear from creators is: AI will not do what you want it to do,” continued Cheng, adding that using the project, “we are turning those models into usable tools for the industry.”

Under the GenAI Creator’s Fund, three new animated series have been greenlit:

  • Punky Duck: A punk duck and his friend, Smiley Cat, tear through Los Angeles, stumbling into alien invasions, monsters, robot criminal conspiracies, and supernatural mayhem. By the director behind The Book of Life.
  • Love, Diana Music Hunter: A young band of K-pop space-traveling musicians race to Planet Goo, where they must perform a concert to restore the music and save the aliens.
  • Cupcake & Friends: A cupcake and her friends face the challenges of a sleepover, with twists abound. Created by BuzzFeed.

Each show was reportedly given a deadline of five weeks for its pilot, with the aim being “to prove it can be done quickly.”

No release dates have been set for the shows just yet, but we do know they’ll all premiere on Prime Video. On top of that, whether the shows are fully AI or whether the creators are using GenAI for certain features remains to be seen.
