There are several anime that, despite the efforts of those working on them, end up being duds when released. One of the most infamous examples of this is finally getting a Blu-ray collection, despite its unenviable reputation.
The infamous EX-ARM was a notorious anime from 2021 that remains one of the worst-reviewed anime of all time, but this isn’t keeping it from receiving a new Blu-ray. Releasing in a matter of weeks, it comes with collectible items and is now available for pre-order. Of course, whether or not audiences will actually want to buy it remains to be seen; however, previous anime and animated initial flops have seen major success when released later via streaming or physical media.

Produced by the anime studio Visual Flight (which has not produced another anime since, as of writing), 2021’s EX-ARM is an adaptation of HiRock and Shinya Komi’s manga of the same name. Announced with the manga’s 12th volume, the anime was notably lambasted by critics and fans, particularly for its visuals. The CGI animation was seen as notoriously stilted and lifeless, resembling a poorly-done video game tech demo from the era of the Nintendo Gamecube. Reportedly, many of the employees behind the anime had next to no animation experience.
As a result, the series was widely disliked, becoming one of the lowest-rated entries on MyAnimeList (it currently sits as the #1 lowest-ranked televised series). Nevertheless, EX-ARM is receiving a Blu-ray just over four years after its original release, with this able to be pre-ordered via Crunchyroll. The Blu-ray is listed for US$89.99 and is set to be released on June 16, 2025, with all 12 episodes placed on two discs. Viewers will also get a bonus poster and four cards in the set.
