Apex Legends suffered a security incident on January 10, 2026, after players reported that a bad actor was able to remotely control another player’s inputs during live matches.
Respawn Entertainment acknowledged the issue in a statement on X/Twitter, confirming it was aware of an active security incident affecting the battle royale.
The developer stated that its initial investigation revealed no evidence that the “bad actor” had been able to install or execute code on others’ PCs, ruling out instances of remote code execution (RCE); however, it confirmed that player inputs were being remotely interfered with.

The studio credited player reports for helping identify and address the issue, describing anti-cheat enforcement as a “constant cat-and-mouse game” and thanking the community for its patience while teams worked to contain the problem.

No further technical details have been shared about how the exploit functioned or how many players were affected. Respawn has not indicated whether any player accounts or personal data were compromised.
The prevalence of cheaters in online lobbies isn’t a problem unique to Apex Legends. Other competitive games, like Call of Duty and Arc Raiders, have experienced issues, too, although incidents of the type experienced by Apex on this occasion are particularly rare.
