After months of being at the top of Apple TV’s global streaming charts, Pluribus has now been dethroned. ing the two-episode premiere on November 7, 2025, it also went on to become the most-watched series in Apple TV history, even managing to surpass Severance and Ted Lasso.

Now, the spy thriller Tehran has taken the number one spot on Apple TV’s global streaming charts. Season 3 made its Apple TV debut on January 9 and will continue dropping weekly episodes up to the season finale on February 27. All episodes were previously released on the Israeli television channel Kan 11 between December 2024 and January 2025.

Tehran currently leads Apple TV viewership in 68 countries, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and India. It is in second place in the U.S., with Pluribus still in first. This is also the case in Israel, although this is likely because the episodes already aired there a year ago.

The Israeli spy thriller series revolves around a Mossad agent, Tamar Rabinyan (Niv Sultan) on a mission in the Iranian capital of Tehran. She is both Jewish and Iranian and was born in the city where her mission is set. Glenn Close joined the cast in season 2 as British Mossad agent Marjan Montazami, while Hugh Laurie debuts as South African nuclear inspector Eric Peterson in season 3.

With an 88% score from critics and 87% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, the reception to Tehran has generally been positive. Apple TV renewed it for season 4 in December, ahead of the season 3 premiere. The show returns to the streamer after a four-year hiatus, since season 2’s episodes were released in 2022.

While it has been dethroned on the global streaming charts, critics’ reviews for Pluribus managed to be even better than those for Tehran, as Vince Gilligan’s science-fiction series has a near-perfect Tomatometer score of 98%. Audiences are more divided on the show, leading to a Popcornmeter score of 66%.

Pluribus season 2 was greenlit alongside season 1, although Gilligan has informed audiences that it will be a while before the series returns. The cast of characters is led by jaded romance novelist Carol Sturka (Rhea Seehorn), one of only 13 individuals across the globe who is immune to an alien virus. She frequently interacts with Zosia (Karolina Wydra), who is part of the alien hive mind.

The cliffhanger ending to Pluribus season 1 and the overall quality of the series means that it will likely continue to thrive on Apple TV’s streaming charts, but for now, Tehran is receiving more global viewership than the most-watched show in the streamer’s history.
