ARC Raiders will take you through a bunch of different quests to get you acquainted with the maps. Some of these are a bit vague, so you might find yourself wandering around aimlessly.
A First Foothold is one such quest where the instructions give you a general idea, but nothing that’ll really help. Even if you find them, there’s no guarantee you won’t be shot by a fellow raider doing the same quest.
This guide will run you through how to find all the objectives for A First Foothold. It’s a great quest for getting a sense of direction in this extraction shooter and also learning the Blue Gate map a little better.
How to Start A First Foothold

To start A First Foothold, you’ll need to have unlocked Blue Gate. This area is the last map you’ll unlock, so it’ll require you to play at least 18 rounds before you can get there.
Once you’ve unlocked Blue Gate, you can go back to Speranza and talk to Apollo. They should have the quest ready for you to accept, so you can knock it out the next time you go topside.
How to Complete A First Foothold

There are four objectives you’ll have to find in Blue Gate to complete this quest. Each one is in a different area of the map, and they’re all pretty spread out from one another.
This means you may want to make a plan to do one or two in a round, since the distance you need to travel can be so vast. Some of that will also depend on where you spawn on the map, so keep that in mind.
Comms Terminal — Olive Grove
You can spawn near Olive Grove since it’s around the edge of the map. Once you find the olive trees, head to the southwest, and you should run into a platform just behind some trees.
The platform is just off the side of the street. From the olive trees, just follow the road towards the edge of the map, and you’ll run into it with no problem. Simply interact with the comms terminal here.
Observation Deck – Ridgeline
Ridgeline’s observation deck that needs stabilizing is easy to spot thanks to the flags coming off the antenna attached to the structure. If you spot the red and yellow torn flags, it means you’re probably in the right place.
Once you’ve found the structure, you can walk up to either side of the platform and interact with it. You’ll be all set to go to the next objective.
Satellite Dishes – Data Vault
Data Vault’s location is easier to spot because it’s such a large structure. You can find it packed back against the mountain, and you can even spawn right inside the church.
I highly recommend using the scaffolding on the side of the building to get up to the radar dishes. You’ll need to jump to mantle your way up there.
Just interact with the dish the same way as before, and you’ll be finished with this part. From here, you have some great options for looting, so head off wherever to get more items for your stash.
Roof Plates – Trapper's Glade
Much like the location at Data Vault, you’ll do a little climbing to fix this objective and nail down the roof plates. This one is a bit tougher to find, though, thanks to the trees that surround the area.
Just keep a lookout for the flags and radar dish, so you can find this one. Get on top of it from the backside and then interact with the last objective to finish this quest off for good.
A First Foothold Rewards

Since this is an Apollo quest, it makes sense that the rewards are all explosives. These should help you in your next run topside to fend off any pesky ARC or unfriendly Raiders.
You’ll receive the following explosives from Apollo:
- Shrapnel Grenade
- Snap Blast Grenade
- Heavy Fuze Grenade
While you’re out completing this quest, don’t forget to look for items to scavenge. You may want to focus on just finishing the quest, but why not get something else out of it, too?
