Assassin’s Creed Shadows Will Now Come To Steam Deck At Launch

Summary

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is going to be a make or break game for Ubisoft. After back-to-back high profile failures in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Star Wars Outlaws, the studio realised that they needed to get this one right. Add to that the discourse around Yasuke’s origins, and it’s an uphill battle for them.

Perhaps that’s why Shadows saw multiple delays in order to add further polish to the game and ensure everything else was spot on. This delay has also given Ubisoft the time to work on other aspects surrounding the game, and has perhaps given the devs enough time to allow Ubisoft to reverse its decision of Steam Deck compatibility on launch. As it stands, Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be available on Steam Deck at launch.

Shadows Can Now Follow You Everywhere You Go

Ubisoft had earlier revealed that the game would not be available on the portable console at launch, but it seems the delay has given the devs the time they needed to optimize Shadows for the Steam Deck. It seems that the game will be coming to Steam Deck at launch, pending classification from Valve.

«Many of you have been asking about Steam Deck,» says a tweet from the Assassin’s Creed handle. «We are happy to say that we are supporting Steam Deck at launch and are currently awaiting the level of classification from Valve. More info to come soon.»

The game is set to launch in just about a week, and this will come as a welcome announcement for those who like to take their Steam library on the go. This announcement is among a few that Ubisoft has made recently, in hopes to give the game the best possible launch.

Among the other things that the devs have tweaked during the additional time that the delay provided was the parkour, which is a main pillar of the series. Fans were worried about how the system would work in the Sengoku period, where buildings weren’t very tall. Other fans were concerned about the multiple endings the game features and not getting a «definitive ending», and so a Canon Mode was introduced as well.
