The continuation to Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra, is officially making its way to WEBTOON alongside several other mainstream and fan-favorite tie-in series.

Per a press release, WEBTOON Entertainment and Dark Horse Comics have announced a new partnership that will bring numerous works from the latter onto the fan-favorite digital platform provided by the former. Perhaps the most exciting of these is the exclusive addition of The Legend of Korra comics to WEBTOON, which will be joined by series rooted in the worlds of The Witcher, Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins, Plants vs. Zombies and Cyberpunk 2077. Release dates for each of the series have yet to be announced. Avatar: The Last Airbender was first added to WEBTOON in March 2024.

The Legend of Korra‘s addition to WEBTOON will be a vertical scrolling format-exclusive. Its official summary, along with those of The Witcher and other series being added to the platform, is as follows:

  • The Legend of Korra (Vertical Scrolling Format Exclusive to WEBTOON) – A continuation of the Nickelodeon animated television series, Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra series follows Avatar Korra and her friends in their continuing adventures.
  • The Witcher – A dark fantasy epic featuring the witcher Geralt of Rivia, a mercenary monster slayer. Embark on the Path and explore the world of the best-selling video game franchise.
  • Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins (Vertical Scrolling Format Exclusive to WEBTOON) – Based on the hit tabletop RPG series, Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins follows a band of unlikely heroes as they embark on high-stakes adventures, blending immersive storytelling with the creativity of roleplaying.
  • Cyberpunk 2077 – A collection of action-packed stories set in the same world as the best-selling video game, featuring a new cast of characters in the neon-lit streets of Night City.
  • Plants vs. Zombies (Vertical Scrolling Format Exclusive to WEBTOON) – The hilarious, action-packed battle between brain-hungry zombies and their unlikely plant defenders continues in this fan-favorite comic series based on the worldwide gaming phenomenon.

The original The Legend of Korra animated series premiered on Nickelodeon in 2012 and introduced a new Avatar in the form of the titular Korra. Voiced by Janet Varney, Korra was the waterbender who followed Avatar Aang and was a decidedly different kind of Avatar altogether. Rather than the largely cool, calm, collected Avatar that Aang was before her, Korra is depicted as headstrong, rebellious and overtly confident of herself in nearly every situation (often to her detriment).

Over the course of its original run, The Legend of Korra amassed 52 episodes across four seasons, with the series coming to a close on Dec. 19, 2014. Currently, fans are awaiting the follow-up to The Legend of Korra, entitled Avatar: Seven Havens, which will follow Korra’s earthbending successor as they try to navigate the post-apocalyptic world they call their home. While this paves the way for all kinds of exciting and harrowing new developments in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender, it also heavily implies that Korra’s time as the Avatar didn’t quite end on the high note that viewers thought they had watched play out on the small screen over a decade ago.

In March, Avatar: The Last Airbender voice actress Jennifer Hale opened up about her hopes to returning to the series for Avatar: Seven Havens. «I would love to jump back into the role,» Hale said, referencing her fan-favorite role of Avatar Kyoshi. «I would be there with bells on, let me at it. Any participation in that would be a joy! I’ve actually seen the Kyoshi novels and I’ve signed several of them that fans have brought to me. Love the role… I love this character, Kyoshi, because she will do what it takes regardless. I think we have that in common for better or for worse.»
