Based on the British series Doc Martin, Best Medicine follows Doctor Martin Best, a former top surgeon in Boston who leaves his life behind to become a general practitioner in a small fishing village where he spent his childhood summers.

The series has been a major hit for the network, with its premiere drawing 12.6 million viewers and ranking among the top two highest-rated broadcast drama debuts this season among adults.

Josh Charles Excited to Work With Martin Clunes on Best Medicine

Josh Charles recently reflected on working with Martin Clunes, the star of the original Doc Martin, on which Best Medicine is based. “Having Martin Clunes is a great bridge for the lovers of the original show,” Charles said, as per Fox, adding, “I think he’s extremely charming and talented.”

Clunes is set to play the role of Robert Best, Martin Best’s father, in episode 9, Doc Martin, and describes his character as “horrible.”

The episode will follow Martin getting a surprise visit from his parents. However, their reunion brings underlying tensions to the surface, especially as Martin begins to suspect that his father may have a medical issue.

“It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with Josh, to see him facing the things that I faced over my 18 years,” Clunes shared, adding that it feels surreal to watch a new version of the story and see another actor take on a role similar to the one he played for years.
