The Foundation is one of the most important rooms in Blue Prince. It’s the only draftable room that becomes permanent, joining the Entrance Hall and Antechamber as a fixed part of your estate layout. Once placed, it stays locked in place across all future runs and where you put it really matters.

What the Foundation Room Does
-
This is a permanent room so it stays where you placed it in every run
-
Has 3 doorways, and allows Security Doors and Dig Spots
-
Contains a lift (elevator) suspended above a vertical shaft
-
Leads to the Basement, but only after activating the lift
-
Cannot be placed along the outer walls of the Estate
Once activated, the Foundation gives you access to the Underground, secret paths, and even a shortcut route that can bypass major sections of the manor.
How to Activate the Elevator in the Foundation
The elevator in the Foundation doesn’t work by default. You’ll need to:
-
Draft a room next to the blocked-off wall inside the Foundation (the side with the hanging lift).
-
That adjacent room must have a doorway that lines up with the elevator wall—rooms like Hallways, Security, or Passageway work best.
-
Inside the adjoining room, you’ll find a winch or lever that lowers the elevator.
Once the elevator is lowered, it stays active forever—no need to do it again in future runs.
What’s in the Basement?
After activating the elevator, ride it down to access a hidden basement chamber. Here’s what you’ll find:
-
An Upgrade Disk
-
A locked door that requires the Basement Key (found later through the Antechamber path)
-
A red button and keycard lock, which opens a shortcut from the Grounds
-
Carts and movable platforms used in future puzzles
-
Breakable walls that lead deeper into the Underground, if you have the Power Hammer
The Foundation isn’t just a lift—it’s a gateway to major secrets and one of the few ways to reset your floorplan if you get stuck.
Where to Place It
Since this room is permanent, placement is important.
-
Near the Entrance Hall: Easy access every day, but far from late-game objectives
-
Near the Antechamber: Convenient for shortcut routes and puzzle chaining, but risky if you can’t reach it quickly
-
Somewhere central: Gives you flexibility, especially if you’re planning wide floorplans
Final Blurb
The Foundation is one of the only fixed things in Blue Prince—and it opens a door to everything that isn’t. Place it smart, activate the lift, and you’ll unlock paths, puzzles, and secrets that most players won’t find until late. This room is your anchor.
