Bridgerton Season 4 is right around the corner, and this time, Netflix is adapting Julia Quinn’s An Offer From a Gentleman. The season, more intimate and class-conscious than ever, will present the love story of Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie Baek. Unlike the previous seasons that leaned heavily on scandal and spectacle, this time, the stakes are deeply personal and socially grounded.
Thus, in this latest chapter, not every character will carry equal narrative weight. So, below is a full ranking of every major Bridgerton Season 4 character, from the least important to the most important!
19 Gregory Bridgerton
The second youngest of the family, Gregory, remains the least important character going into Season 4. His romantic arc does not begin well until later, and for now, Netflix has consistently kept him in the background as a child-to-teen presence rather than a narrative driver.
18 Hyacinth Bridgerton
Slightly more prominent than Gregory, the youngest Bridgerton is known for her sharp wit and observation skills, often putting her elder siblings in uncomfortable situations. Her importance is largely tonal, but for now, she also remains in the shadows.
17 Prudence and Philippa Featherington
Sisters of Penelope, Prudence, and Philippa mainly serve as a comic effect in the larger scandalous narrative of the Netflix show. But with Penelope now married and the scandal resolved, they have largely outlived their narrative utility. They may appear for continuity or humor, but their arcs are functionally complete.
16 Michaela Stirling
The cousin of John Stirling, Michaela, is the next lover of Francesca Bridgerton. While Netflix gender-swapped the character, she will play a vital role in Francesca’s love story. But given that their narrative will only start after the death of John, it is unlikely that she will play as important a role in Season 4.
15 Will and Alice Mondrich
Will and Alice Mondrich are the new members of the ton, after their eldest son gained a title due to the passing of a distant relative. Good friends with several main characters, they are unlikely to have any meaningful impact in Season 4.
Yet, their storyline functions more as a social mirror to the ton rather than a driver of Benedict’s personal journey.
14 Lord Marcus Anderson
Lord Marcus Anderson has positioned himself as somewhat of an important character in the show. He is the younger and formerly estranged brother of Lady Danbury and is seeking a romantic relationship with Lady Violet Bridgerton.
In Season 4, we can expect them to get closer and their romantic relationship to evolve.
13 Portia Featherington
The mother of Penelope, Philippa, and Prudence, Portia Featherington, is known as a social strategist but has lost narrative dominance now that Penelope’s arc has resolved.
Yet, we can expect her to serve as a commentator and strategist. However, she will not influence the main romantic arc of Benedict and Sophie.
12 Francesca and John Stirling
At the end of Season 3 of Bridgerton, Francesca and John Sterling got married. Unlike the other couples on the show, their importance lies in quiet contrast. We can expect them to be back in the ton after spending time away in Scotland, while also seeing their romance evolve.
In the last season, we hardly got any romantic moments between them, but with a new season, we can expect their relationship to mature and grow, as well as their love.
11 Colin Bridgerton
Now happily married, Colin’s narrative purpose is mentorship rather than conflict in the new season. However, with his son now the new Lord Featherington, he will surely have some big role to play in maintaining the Featherington estate.
Moreover, with Penelope’s true identity revealed and the number of enemies that Lady Whistledown has made, we can expect some disturbance in their marriage.
10 Rosamund Li and Posy Li
The stepsisters of Sophie Baek, both Rosamund Li and Posy Li, are important characters in the upcoming season. The extensions of cruelty, rather than independent antagonists, their treatment of Sophie will remain vital in the narrative.
Moreover, in the upcoming season, both are seeking suitable marriage proposals.
9 Anthony and Kate Bridgerton
As viscount and viscountess, Anthony and Kate embody stability and responsibility. Anthony’s approval of Benedict’s unconventional romance carries weight, but the couple remains supportive rather than obstructive.
In the next season, we will also meet their kid/s while also potentially getting a look at how parenthood has affected their marriage.
8 Lady Araminta Gun
Araminta Gun is a notoriously cunning and wicked woman who hates her second husband’s illegitimate daughter, Sophie. Having two daughters from her first marriage, she is now seeking to find suitable matches for her two daughters.
An antagonist, her cruelty defines Sophie’s circumstances, and she will play an important role in her romance with Benedict.
7 Violet Bridgerton
Violet Bridgerton will play a pivotal role as the family matriarch, while her son Benedict will take center stage. Always in support of her children’s love life, she will play a vital role in Sophie and Benedict’s match if the Netflix series remains faithful to Julia Quinn’s book.
Moreover, her character is set to further explore her romantic connection with Lady Danbury’s brother, Lord Marcus Anderson.
6 Eloise Bridgerton
Expected to be back after a trip to Scotland with Francesca and John, it will be a delight to see Eloise. From her ideological resistance to marriage and class structures to her sarcastic wit, we can expect her to play a vital role in Season 4, both in Benedict and Colin’s storyline.
Even if she is not driving the plot, her skepticism provides intellectual friction, making her one of the most interesting female characters in the show.
5 Queen Charlotte
With Queen Charlotte now having discovered the true identity of Lady Whistledown, she will try to mould the narrative for her benefit. Always wanting to control the narrative and the gossip, she will also play an important role in this season’s love match.
Her response to Benedict and Sophie’s relationship could determine whether society tolerates or rejects them, making her influence indirect but formidable.
4 Lady Danbury
While Queen Charlotte might believe she is above all, Lady Danbury occupies a more important role than her. Capable of manipulating even the Queen’s decisions, she is always the protector of the socially vulnerable.
Her empathy toward Sophie and willingness to bend rules make her one of the season’s most morally significant characters.
3 Penelope Bridgerton / Lady Whistledown
Penelope’s dual identity makes her uniquely positioned to understand Sophie’s invisibility. As someone who navigated power from the margins, her role is thematically crucial even without center-stage drama.
Moreover, with her identity now revealed, she will undoubtedly face some tough decisions when it comes to her craft. From family and social pressures to Queen watching her and possibly forcing her, we can expect some turbulence in both her personal and professional life.
2 Sophie Baek
The ‘Cinderella’ of Bridgerton Season 4, she remains the emotional core of the season. Forced to remain in the shadows due to her unfortunate birth circumstances, she has spent much of her life in cruel conditions thanks to her stepmother and stepsisters.
Her struggle against class oppression, abuse, and erasure challenges Bridgerton’s fantasy more than any previous heroine.
1 Benedict Bridgerton
Benedict is the season’s axis. His internal conflict, privilege versus authenticity, drives every major decision and consequence. Netflix has framed Season 4 as his long-overdue transformation from observer to protagonist. After not getting enough attention in the previous seasons, we will finally get to see and explore his quirky personality as he finds love in unlikely circumstances.
