Call of Duty shot down rumors that its next game is coming to PS4, and in doing so confirmed the franchise is finally leaving last-gen behind.
The claim started circulating on May 3, when leaker HeyImAlaix posted that the next Call of Duty title was being playtested on PS4 hardware.
The series has shipped on last-gen consoles with every new entry, and Black Ops 7 released on PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series, PS5, and PC, so the idea strained no one’s credibility. Fans had every reason to expect more of the same, prompting the official account to step in.

It is also the most the official account has volunteered about the 2026 game at all. Activision has not confirmed a title, release date, or what platforms the next entry will actually ship on. The denial rules PS4 out, pointing by implication toward PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, but nothing has been stated directly.
Leaker TheGhostofHope had predicted exactly this back in early 2025, claiming no last-gen support alongside an overhauled engine and development on next-gen Xbox devkits. Infinity Ward responded to those leaks at the time with a vague “don’t believe everything you read on the internet,” which now reads as a selectively aimed dismissal.
What that game actually looks like remains largely rumor. Leakers have claimed the campaign centers on the Korean peninsula, with both North and South Korea in significant roles, and that the title may stylize the number four using the Korean character 사 on its logo and box art.
