Activision has maintained a consistent rhythm with its annual Call of Duty releases, which typically land between mid-October and November. This year, however, that long-standing pattern could see a shift.

The reason is Rockstar Games’ planned launch of GTA 6 on November 19, 2026. With a release of that magnitude looming, sticking to the usual window could pose a serious sales challenge for Activision, potentially forcing the publisher to rethink its traditional Call of Duty launch timing.

GTA 6 Could Influence the Next Call of Duty Release

According to  TheGhostOfHope, the next Call of Duty game in line is Modern Warfare 4, like the usual pattern, every gamer would get to experience it around November 2026. Now that would be the case for regular years; however, this year it’s different.

Rockstar Games has its sights set on releasing GTA 6 in November 2026, and given the unprecedented demand, the game is widely expected to sell at an extraordinary scale. GTA 6 already overshadows nearly every other release on the calendar, which puts any title launching nearby in direct competition.

As a result, games targeting the same window may need to brace themselves for one of the most intense release clashes the industry has seen. Considering the mixed situation for the Call of Duty franchise, taking that challenge might be risky.

Nearly Every Publisher Is Watching GTA 6 Closely

Rockstar has held a huge place in the industry for their dedication to games and innovating at every turn. As a matter of fact, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, stated that there has been zero usage of AI for GTA 6.

While the game development field is slowly shifting towards including AI in its workflow, Rockstar’s dedication to letting tradition stand out makes it even more respectable.

Furthermore, multiple major publishers have pulled themselves out of the competition deliberately to avoid a similar release day as GTA 6 (via TheGameBusiness). With that much hype around Rockstar’s next project, the fear of losing sales looms over many.

So far, Rockstar Games has kept most details about GTA 6 tightly under wraps. At the same time, other publishers are already adjusting their strategies around the upcoming release, knowing that Rockstar’s past launches have consistently set new benchmarks for open-world games.
