The White Lotus star Carrie Coon’s underrated thriller is about to have a new streaming home.
Hulu is set to add 2024’s Lake George to their ever-expanding library of films and TV shows. The underrated crime thriller starring Carrie Coon and Shea Whigham will be available for streaming on Hulu beginning April 15.
Written and directed by Jeffrey Reiner, who co-produced alongside Cleta Ellington, Lake George stars Shea Whigham as Don, a former insurance adjuster who is utterly incapable of finding legitimate work after being released from a ten-year prison sentence. Desperate to make ends meet, Don calls in on a debt owed to him by an Armenian gangster, Armen, portrayed by Glenn Fleshler. When Armen instead tries to use Don to assassinate his girlfriend, Carrie Coon’s Phyllis, the latter pair team up to take down and rob the former’s various stash houses.
Lake George Has Garnered Praise From Critics
Lake George also features appearances from Max Casella, Ashley Fink, Derek Phillips, Keri Safran, Joey Oglesby, and Troy Metcalf. Upon its release, Lake George was lauded by critics, so much so that the film has garnered a near-perfect review score via online aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. Although several critics noted that the film plays more as a black comedy and less as a proper thriller, none have noted that specific aspect of the film as one that detracts from the work as a whole.
Carrie Coon and Shea Whigham, who previously shared the small screen together for the third season of Fargo, recently spoke to CBR about the film, as well as how their prior work together helped ease them into the project. «We were great friends after Fargo, along with Mark Forward, who played my deputy. We were in Calgary for a long time, and we got to know each other really well. Shea and I were eager to work together again, and it was Shea who was able to put something together for us,» Coon said. «He brought this project to me during the strike, because the financing came in really suddenly, and I happened to be free because it was strike time. I know a lot of interesting, strange little movies got made during that period, when people could take that time away from bigger projects and make smaller passion projects. And that’s what we did.»
Lake George will be available for streaming on Hulu beginning April 15.
