There are many games that let you play as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. One of the best currently available, however, is Super Evil Megacorp’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate, a roguelike adventure that’s playable alone or in co-op. And now it’s just got even better thanks to the arrival of a piece of DLC. Casey Jones & the Junkyard Jam not only adds a new playable character the game, but also a new area to battle through and more.
Being called Casey Jones & the Junkyard Jam, you can probably guess the playable character and the area that this paid DLC for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate adds. It does indeed allow you to play as Casey Jones, the masked vigilante and friend of the turtles who fights crime with weapons including a hockey stick. I have to admit that I’ve always enjoyed taking control of Casey Jones in a Turtles game, and that continues here. Whacking robots and foot soldiers with a hockey stick is just as entertaining as ever, and Casey’s special attack has him firing a puck at enemies at a distance.
Pick up the Casey Jones & the Junkyard Jam DLC and Casey Jones is playable instantly as long as you’ve already been out on a run previously. Otherwise, you’ll just have to one outing as a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle before you can select him. And if you have put time into Splintered Fate already, he’ll benefit from any upgrades that you’ve already purchased.
To access the other major part of this paid DLC, however, you might have to put some work in. It is, of course, the Junkyard area, which has been overrun with Punk Frogs. This becomes accessible after beating Karai, the second major boss in the game, which thankfully shouldn’t be all that challenging for most. The Junkyard is a fun new area, too, what with it being given a fun makeover by the Punk Frogs. Amongst the barrel fires and displays of graffiti, you’ll do battle with the frogs that now call this their home as well as the robots they’ve repurposed. There are some new boss fights too; Gigi might give you a run for your money if you’re not careful, but it’s the Junkinator that you really need to watch out for.
Throw in five new artifacts for you to make use of, and Casey Jones’ masteries, inspirations and tools that can be used by the other characters, and Casey Jones & the Junkyard Jam proves to be a worthwhile addition to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate. It doesn’t change the game dramatically, but it does add some variety. And if Casey Jones happens to be one of your favourite characters in this franchise, then consider it a must-have.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate is available on Switch and PC.
