The Harvest Moon actress addressed the fan speculations of her Chicago Med character’s pregnancy, prompting major alterations in her further storyline.
The NBC show recently put Dr. Hannah Asher in a crisis when she discovered that she is unexpectedly pregnant with Dr. Dean Archer’s baby. Conflicted between keeping or letting go of the baby due to her history with addiction, she decides to embrace motherhood despite the internal doubts.
While the bold move will show the audience a softer, unexplored side of the character, it comes bearing questions about her professional future. Speaking to Soaps.com about the impact of Hannah’s pregnancy on her life, Jessy Schram said, “The pregnancy is bringing up all of Hannah’s life choices and how that affects her and her identity.”
“It’s presenting a lot of challenges because she’s embarking on this major life event and major life change alone, because while she has a really supportive person and friend, and she’ll be co-parenting with someone, they’re not planning to do life together,” the 39-year-old actress further added.
Additionally, Jessy Schram highlighted her character’s moral dilemma of putting her successful career on hold for a chance at motherhood. Noting the complex emotions Hannah is experiencing, she pointed out that the latter worked her “whole life for something, and now it’s all going to change,” leaving her to juggle between work and parenting.
Moreover, Schram commented on the possible impact Hannah’s decision could have on her and Dean’s relationship. “We’re very much in figuring out what that looks like and how it’s affecting both of them, because it is definitely affecting both of them. I, as Jessy, don’t know where I hope for it to go, but I’m really having a fun time exploring it and being on the edge of my seat, wondering what happens.”
Jessy Schram also addressed Hannah’s inner turmoil, sharing, “She knows everything that can go right and everything that can go wrong in a pregnancy, and you better bet that she is having some fears right now. And I think we get to see her vulnerability a lot, but not without a few masks in front of it.”
Regardless, Schram and fans are eager to find out how Hannah’s pregnancy storyline pans out on Chicago Med Season 11.
