While the Paintress is painted as the villain in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, there is also a second antagonist in the form of Renoir. He met you and your expedition when you stormed the beach, and he unfortunately slew one of the main cast members at the end of Act I in one of the most depressing moments in the story. Regardless, as you might expect, you have to face him, and what better place to do so than in front of a burning manor? While you’re out to get the Paintress’ heart, Renoir stands in your way, so this guide will explore how to take him down.

Strategy
The vanish attack is without doubt the deadliest attack Renoir has in his arsenal, being able to remove a character from the battlefield and having no means of reviving or replacing them. Thankfully, the Gradient attack is fairly forgiving as, if you mistake it for a regular attack, you’ll have just enough time to swap to the Gradient parry.
Outside of this, hope that Renoir mostly uses his “pool of Chroma” attack because it’s the easiest to deal with, as the six-hit combo can be a bit frantic given that they throw in both fast and slow attacks, not to mention the final hit that stuns characters.
Lastly, the petals that appear at around 50% HP will heal Renoir basically to full health if you don’t deal with them right away. They don’t have a large health pool, so two AOE attacks will generally kill them, but you should have more than enough time to take them off the battlefield before they prolong Renoir’s fight.
Other than that, the only recommendation is, like most fights, that burning Renoir helps drain his HP very fast, and with Maelle on your team, she will benefit from the burn stacks if you have specific abilities.
