CoD Warzone: How To Counter Vehicles

Call of Duty: Warzone is shaping up to be in a good place with the rerelease of Verdansk, bringing back a familiar battleground to play on, complete with fan-favorite weapons in the loot pool like the Grau 5.56 and the CR-56 AMAX. While players may be practicing their sniping skills to take out enemies at range or customizing their loadouts to be the best, a rise in one particular strategy can be pretty tricky to overcome.

One of the most frustrating parts of Warzone for some is the use of vehicles in the endgame, with groups of squads often making use of LTVs to run down other teams during the final few safe zones. While dealing with such a strategy can seem difficult, there are a few effective counters to it. Here is a guide covering some of the best ways to counter vehicles in Call of Duty: Warzone.

Thermites

  • How To Get: Unlocked via the Black Ops Tribute Event / Warzone Armory Challenge

One of the best counters for vehicles currently in Warzone is the Thermite—a piece of lethal equipment that has appeared in various iterations of the game. When thrown, the Thermite detonates and continuously burns the area of impact, dealing rapid flame damage. This ongoing damage allows Thermite to quickly disable and destroy vehicles with just one or two well-placed tosses.

While Thermites do take up a lethal slot, they remain an effective counter to all vehicles. However, players will need to get close enough to accurately stick a Thermite onto a moving vehicle. When grabbing a loadout, players are also only granted one Thermite by default, unless they manage to scavenge a second beforehand or after—which can be limiting when facing multiple vehicles in the endgame.

For a more consistent supply of Thermites, players can equip the Quartermaster perk in the Perk 2 slot, which recharges all equipment every 50 seconds. One important thing to keep in mind, however, is that standard Thermites can be countered by Trophy Systems. If players want to use Thermites without worrying about Trophy Systems, then equipping the Crossbow or the Torque 35 with the Brightblaze 20» Bolts / Blaze Arrows can be just as effective.

Drill Charges

  • How To Get: Unlocked at Level 50

Another effective counter against vehicles is the Drill Charge, yet another piece of lethal equipment in Warzone. When thrown, the Drill Charge attaches to a surface, drilling through it and sending an explosive charge to the other side. When used on vehicles, the Drill Charge can effectively dish out damage to players inside the vehicle, downing them if they are low enough. While not exactly as effective as destroying vehicles as the Thermite, taking out the driver of a vehicle with a Drill Charge, or forcing them to bail out, can be an effective strategy.

While players are limited in the number of Drill Charges they can carry, this can be circumvented with the Quartermaster Perk. Players can also make use of the Drill Charge Launcher Underbarrel for some extra Drill Charges on select weapons, though doing so will take up the Underbarrel Slot, often shared with popular attachments like the Vertical Foregrip. Again, Drill Charges can also be countered by Trophy Systems, calling for players to shoot them if they are attached to a vehicle beforehand.

Rocket Launchers

  • Best Picks: RPG-7, Cigma 2B, and the JOKR

Another effective counter against vehicles is Launchers—explosive weapons that take up a Secondary slot in Warzone loadouts, eliminating the need to use the Overkill Wildcard. Currently, some of the top picks for vehicle takedown include the RPG-7 for free-fire use, as well as the Cigma 2B and JOKR for players who prefer lock-on capabilities.

The main drawback to using Launchers is that they occupy a weapon slot in a player’s loadout, which can be a downside for those wanting to run an Overkill setup with two primary weapons. Additionally, Launchers can be countered by Trophy Systems on all vehicles, and lock-on Launchers specifically can be avoided by helicopters using flares, limiting their effectiveness in some scenarios.

If you don’t have any of these items on hand, shooting the driver is also a solid strategy.
