A college valedictorian is going viral after a Technoblade quote she chose for a local newspaper was read aloud during her graduation ceremony.
The graduate, who goes by the screen name ‘cloudyysoph_’ on TikTok, uploaded a video showing the moment the quote was read aloud while she stood on stage, holding back her laughter.
The quote is as follows:
“No matter how ridiculous the odds may seem, within us resides the power to overcome these challenges and achieve something beautiful. That one day, we’ll look back at where we started and be amazed by how far we have come.”
The story behind viral valedictorian’s Technoblade quote
While it’s certainly an inspiring string of words on the surface, it actually stems from a hilarious Minecraft saga called ‘The Great Potato War,’ which was a months-long conflict between Technoblade and his rival, fellow creator ‘im_a_squid_kid.’
It started out innocuously enough, as Technoblade merely needed to farm potatoes to upgrade his armor in the game. However, it quickly spiraled out of control as he and squid_kid began battling for the number one potato ranking in the Skyblock server.
Eventually, the two decided that whoever collected a total of 500 million potatoes would win the war, which Technoblade ultimately won on June 22, 2022.
Cloudyysoph_’s video racked up over one million views in just two days, with Technoblade fans reminiscing about the Great Potato War in the comments section.
Soph clarified why she was trying to hold back her laughter in the clip, saying she was under the impression her quote would have been used in a local newspaper rather than at her graduation ceremony.
“Guys, I was trying not to laugh because I had gotten a letter in the mail saying my quote was for a newspaper article in some random local newspaper because I was one of the valedictorians. I had no idea they would read it on stage,” she explained.
