Cronos: The New Dawn is a brand-new IP from horror developer Bloober Team. Fresh off the success of its Silent Hill 2 remake and original games like Layers of Fear and Blair Witch, Bloober Team has proven itself as a horror powerhouse. Cronos: The New Dawn now has the tough task of meeting high expectations, but previews of the game appear both promising and spine-chilling.
One of the clearest sources of inspiration for Cronos: The New Dawn is the Dead Space franchise. From the oppressive atmosphere to the intense body horror, Cronos: The New Dawn is teasing a horrifying experience for players. According to a recent interview between TechRadar and game directors Wojciech Piejko and Jacek Zięba, Cronos: The New Dawn has a variety of inspirations, with one of the most exciting being Bloodborne.
Cronos: The New Dawn Could Be a Surprising Game to Help Scratch the Bloodborne Itch
- Bloodborne launched for the PS4 on March 24, 2015.
- Since then, hope of a sequel has continued to grow.
- Developer FromSoftware currently has no known plans to make a second game.
Bloodborne is hailed by a lot of gamers and critics as one of the best games of all time. Over the years, rumors, leaks, and speculation regarding another Bloodborne game have continued to pile up with no confirmation or news proving such claims true. On the one hand, it’s incredibly difficult to catch lightning in a bottle twice. However, on the other hand, fans have a lot of confidence in FromSoftware to do a sequel properly. Unfortunately, at this time, a Bloodborne sequel remains to be seen, but Cronos: The New Dawn may help satiate fans, at least partially.
The recently announced Switch 2 exclusive, The Duskbloods, is one of FromSoftware’s next games and appears to have a healthy dose of Bloodborne inspiration.
Cronos: The New Dawn's Directors Reveal a Diverse List of Inspirations
Talking with TechRadar, Zięba mentioned that Cronos: The New Dawn has elements of «Death Stranding, even a little bit of Nier: Automata, Silent Hill, and, of course, Bloodborne in the city with the disease.” At the heart of Cronos: The New Dawn‘s story lies a mysterious supernatural disease that causes the fictional city of the game to be put under martial law.
For Bloodborne fans, exploring a city ravaged by a plague that transforms its hosts into monsters sounds an awful lot like playing as the Hunter in Yharnam. Bloodborne is an incredibly unique story, and Bloober Team choosing to take inspiration for its own plague-infested narrative is bold and exciting.
From the oppressive atmosphere to the intense body horror, Cronos: The New Dawn is teasing a horrifying experience for players.
Cronos: The New Dawn Faces a Potentially Packed Year for Horror Games
- Cronos: The New Dawn has yet to reveal an official release date, but its Steam page claims a 2025 target.
Cronos: The New Dawn isn’t the only horror game that has yet to announce its release date. Fellow horror titles like Little Nightmares 3, Dying Light: The Beast, Reanimal, and John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando are also keeping quiet about launch targets. Assuming that the developers of these games want to take advantage of the month of October, the fall could be packed with a variety of fright-filled offerings. 2025 could be big for horror, but the wait for launch dates continues, as delays can also happen.
Upcoming horror title Directive 8020 has locked in a release date of October 2, 2025, being the first to stake its claim on the spooky season.
Based on what Bloober Team has showcased, though, it looks like Cronos: The New Dawn may be ready to launch soon, or at least stay on track for this year. Once the game finally arrives, it will be exciting to see just how much Bloodborne has actually influenced the atmosphere of Cronos: The New Dawn.
