As per reports shared by FlixPatrol on January 9, this new Winter 2026 fantasy anime, Jack of All Trades, Party of None, has beaten Gachiakuta in viewership on Crunchyroll in the United States. Sure, Gachiakuta had already finished airing in the previous season, but it became insanely popular in the US and other countries, thanks to its Gen Z punk vibes.

So, to see it fall behind a new (relatively unknown) fantasy anime wasn’t something anyone saw coming. It only means that Jack of All Trades, Party of None must be good, right? Well, surprisingly, it kind of is. It even has one of the nicest approaches to revenge tales in anime – not the kind of story you’d imagine when you hear the word ‘revenge.’

Jack of All Trades Anime Offers the Best Kind of Revenge Tale

What sets Jack of All Trades, Party of None apart from other popular fantasy revenge anime is that revenge isn’t even its driving theme! But you’d still feel its relevance throughout. It’s less about MC seeking to inflict suffering on a person or group and more about self-development. Yes, meet Orun Dula, the kind of guy you’d want in your party.

Although Orun is introduced as just an A-rank enchanter, he does his job quite well. At first, he became an adventurer as a swordsman, but later he switched to being an enchanter because it better suited his role and attributes in his party. However, his S-rank hero party now needs an S-rank enchanter, so keeping Orun around became inconvenient for them. Thus, they selfishly stripped away his happiness by abandoning him.

Even though the party was formed by Orun’s friend Oliver, he too suggested that Orun should leave for everyone’s benefit. Now, you’d imagine Orun would be filled with hate and anger, train relentlessly, and prove to his former party that abandoning him was a mistake, right?

Nope. He simply chooses the “I have no enemies” route. Orun joins another party soon after, with Selma and Sophia (the incident that led to this was also shown beautifully). And, now he’s focused on self-improvement – not to confront his old party, but so that one day they might see him and realize just how well he’s doing in life. As fans, it’d be great to see them regret.

What’s With the Recent Surge in Good Fantasy Anime Adaptations?

Recently, there has been a surge in fantasy anime, and not just the once-seen-then-forgotten kind, but ones with genuinely good stories with memorable characters. The big 3 of fantasy have already been settled as Frieren, Sentenced to Be a Hero, and Witch Hat Atelier. Still, Jack of All Trades, Party of None may become your personal favorite.

What’s great about it is that none of these shows rely heavily on repeating major tropes. Of course, hero parties and classic fantasy elements like adventure ranks, guilds, and dungeons are still there. Those are simply the foundation of any fantasy world we love to see. But the way Jack of All Trades, Party of None, and the other mentioned fantasy anime present these worlds feels fresh every time. Is this truly the new era of fantasy?

Jack of All Trades, Party of None is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
