YouTube star Danny Gonzalez would like to see the platform get rid of YouTube Shorts, as he says he’d use the app “more” if he didn’t have to see them.
With the rise of TikTok and Instagram Reels, pretty much every social media platform across the board has an outlet for short-form content. YouTube has YouTube Shorts, Snapchat has them, and so too does LinkedIn.
When it comes to YouTube, many creators have been frustrated by the rise of Shorts, as it has taken some attention away from long-form content. Plus, clips can be recycled over and over, and they’re even making more money for those who upload them.
Some users have even called for YouTube to dedicate a separate app to Shorts, so it doesn’t fill up their normal home feed.
Danny Gonzalez would “get rid” of Shorts videos from the internet
Danny Gonzalez is seemingly on board with that, as he’d like to see Shorts ‘turned off’ from the normal YouTube app.
“If I was president of the internet, I think I would get rid of my biggest frustration right now, which is Shorts being on every single app and there’s nothing you can do to turn them off,” he told Dexerto.
“I feel like I would use the YouTube app so much more if you could turn off Shorts, because I just get sucked into them and they’re just a worse version of TikTok, which I also don’t have on my phone because I don’t want Shorts. I also think you should be able to turn on a chronological feed on any app.”
In chat with Dexerto, Gonzalez also laid out an idea to get rid of “clickbait” on YouTube, suggesting a comment section where viewers could vote on title suggestions and thumbnails for videos.
