If you’re tired of surviving solo and want to bring your friends into the world of Ashenfall, good news—RuneScape: Dragonwilds does support online co-op. But before you start chopping trees and dodging dragons with your pals, you’ll need to understand how the game handles servers and what’s coming next.

Can You Run a Dedicated Server?
Not yet—but it’s coming.
The in-game roadmap confirms that Dedicated Servers are planned as a future feature. Right now, all multiplayer in Dragonwilds is host-based, meaning one person creates a world, and others join that world session. If the host leaves, everyone else is booted out too.
So while dedicated servers aren’t available at launch, they’re on the horizon—and when they arrive, you can expect longer, more stable world sessions that don’t depend on one player staying online.
How Multiplayer Works Right Now
To play co-op with friends, here’s what you need to do:
-
Link Your Epic Account to Steam
You must link an Epic Games account to play multiplayer. This is how the game handles online services.-
Log into your Epic account
-
Go to Account Settings → Connections → Apps
-
Link your Steam account there
-
-
Create or Join a World
-
Start the game and click Play
-
Choose New World and set it to either Friends or Public
-
You can name the world (no spaces or symbols), add a password, and turn on friendly fire if you’re into accidental team-kills
-
-
Joining a Friend’s World
-
From the main menu, go to Play → Public
-
Type in the world name (case-sensitive) to find it
-
You’ll need the password if one was set
-
-
Adjusting Your Solo World
Already made a solo world? No problem. You can go into that world’s settings and change it to public or friends-only at any time.
Important Notes
-
Player Limit: Up to 4 players per world right now
-
Epic Account is required for all online play, even if both players are on Steam
-
Offline Mode works fine without Epic, but you’ll be totally alone (no co-op or multiplayer)
-
Chat and multiplayer tools are being improved, per the official roadmap
Final Blurb
If you’re planning to host your own RuneScape: Dragonwilds world 24/7, you’ll have to wait a bit longer—dedicated servers aren’t live yet. For now, multiplayer is session-based, but it works well enough if you’ve got a few reliable friends and some patience with Epic’s account linking.
Once the dedicated server update drops, you’ll have a lot more freedom to build and explore with your group, no host required. Until then, stay online, stay stocked on arrows, and maybe—just maybe—don’t turn on friendly fire.
