Destiny 2 players can claim over 3,000 Bright Dust for free

Destiny 2 developer Bungie is giving away over 3,000 Bright Dust for free as compensation for an oversight with the Pathfinder system.

Each week, 350 Bright Dust will be claimable from the Eververse Store for the next nine weeks, meaning Guardians can claim a total of 3,150 Bright Dust for free.

The first batch is already available as of August 6 and will remain in the featured section of the Eververse store until the weekly reset on August 13. It will then be replaced by another batch, with this cycle continuing until October 1, 2024.

This was confirmed by Bungie’s global community lead – Dylan Garner – who posted on X/Twitter, “Reminder: Weekly Free Bright Dust starts this week. 350 a week for nine weeks. Snag it from the Eververse tab.”

Revealing why Bungie is giving away so much free Bright Dust, Garner explained on Reddit, “Players aren’t earning as much Bright Dust as we expected under the new Pathfinder system released with The Final Shape.”

The community lead then elaborated, “We wanted to get ahead of this and issue a make good to get folks caught up as there were no intentions of reducing XP or Bright Dust earn rates. Had the comms planned for last week, but delay pushed us out,” with this originally intended to be announced in the TWID that was delayed following last week’s layoffs.

Bright Dust is a rare currency that can be spent on specific cosmetics that would normally require Silver, Destiny 2’s premium currency. This includes shaders, sparrows, ships, and even ornaments for both Exotic weapons and armor.

It’s not easy to come by, with Bright Dust only available from event bounties like what’s featured in Solstice 2024, completing seasonal challenges, and farming Pathfinder. To receive this much for free is a huge bonus for players, who can now purchase cosmetics that they may have otherwise missed out on.
