Disney Plus slammed for raising prices and adding “useless” new feature

Marvel/Disney

Another day, another pricing hike on Disney Plus/Netflix/insert popular streaming service here. But this time, Disney is attempting to counteract their rising costs with a new feature, though not everyone is happy about it.

Not long after Netflix users have been “forced into piracy” due to rising prices, Disney+ has announced a slate of new plans with higher costs. The streaming service is getting a price hike up to 25% more than it is now.

The new system will come into place from October 17, 2024. From that point on, the ad-tier subscription will be $9.99, Disney+ Premium will be $15.99, and Hulu will cost $9.99 with ads and $18.99 without.

This is a significant change from when the platform first launched in 2019, when a subscription cost $6.99 without ads. Naturally, this surge has elicited a wave of backlash from subscribers, who disagree with the inflated costs.

As one X user wrote: “These platforms really don’t have enough good shows to be doing all this.”

“The fact that streaming services have a PAID AD TIER is genuinely f**king disgusting bro. Before we know it, basic cable TV is gonna be back because of the corporate green of these stupid f**king companies. This pisses me off so much, omg,” said another.

To lessen the blow of the new prices, Disney Plus will be adding a “curated playlist” feature on the platform later this year. The playlists will allow continuous content to be played on a loop. This includes Seasonal Content, Pre-School Collection, Epic Stories (for Marvel and Star Wars movies and shows), Throwbacks, and Real Life.

“I’m dead, they reinvented TV channels,” said one comment, while another added: “Disney just recreating cable without the residuals.”

“Channels. They are introducing channels,” said one user.

Another wrote: “The fact we have to pay to have all that makes it useless.”
