Hugh Jackman received some stern advice before accepting Deadpool & Wolverine, and it all came from one major Marvel figure.
One of the biggest appeals of Deadpool & Wolverine (aside from the universe-hopping Marvel antics), is the reappearance of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. The official team-up between Wade Wilson and Logan is finally coming around, 15 years after Deadpool’s bizarre debut in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
While Jackman might not be the only Wolverine in the upcoming Marvel movie (variants are expected), he is the most iconic. As such, it would surprise many to hear that he was actually advised not to take the role. And the word of warning came from none other than the President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige.
In a recent interview with Empire, Feige revealed that he tried to convince Jackman to leave Wolverine in the past. The reason behind his advice makes sense, as he believed Wolverine’s demise in 2017’s Logan was the perfect conclusion for the character.
“I said, ‘Let me give you a piece of advice, Hugh. Don’t come back,’” Feige said. “‘You had the greatest ending in history with ‘Logan.’ That’s not something we should undo.’”
Thankfully, Jackman went with his gut, and now we’re just a stone’s throw away from seeing Deadpool and Wolverine rip their way through the MCU together. As the actor explains it, the decision to accept the movie came when he was on his way home.
“I was about an hour into the drive,” Jackman said. “And that question came into my head: ‘What do I want to do?’ And as soon as I asked the question, I wanted to do Deadpool & Wolverine. I just knew it. I drove for another hour. Couldn’t stop thinking about it. And I got out of the car, called Ryan, and said, ‘Ryan, if you’ll have me, I’m in.’ ”
With those words, Deadpool & Wolverine was born. For more info on the new movie, check out our Deadpool & Wolverine trailer breakdown, and find out how much of the MCU you need to watch before you see it.
