Diablo 4 : Get Horadric Strongrooms in Season 9

In Diablo 4 Season 9: Sins of the Horadrim, Horadric Strongrooms are challenging mini-dungeons found within Nightmare Dungeons, offering valuable rewards like Horadric Attunement for crafting powerful Horadric Jewels. While not every Nightmare Dungeon contains a Strongroom, there are strategies to increase your chances of finding and farming them.

How to Find Horadric Strongrooms

Horadric Strongrooms are secret challenge rooms that can appear inside Nightmare Dungeons. Here’s how to increase your odds of encountering them:

  • Higher Difficulty: Play on the hardest difficulty (Torment I or higher). Higher World Tiers increase the likelihood of Strongrooms appearing.

  • Horadric Wayfinder: The Horadric Wayfinder is a special tool obtained during the seasonal questline. Upgrading it throughout the questline will improve its ability to help you locate Strongrooms within Nightmare Dungeons. While not a usable item in your inventory, it acts as a narrative mechanic that «pulls» you towards nearby Strongrooms.

  • Nightmare Sigil Affixes: The most reliable way to find a Strongroom is to use a Nightmare Sigil with a specific affix that guarantees a Horadric Strongroom will appear in that dungeon. Look for sigils that explicitly state «Horadric Strongroom» in their tooltip. Escalation Sigils, part of the new dungeon tier system, also often roll with Strongroom-related affixes.

  • Visual and Audio Cues: Inside a Nightmare Dungeon, keep an eye out for a flash of light followed by a distinct sound. This indicates a Horadric Gateway is nearby. When you approach the gateway, an ambush of enemies will spawn. Defeat them, and the gateway will transform into a portal leading to the Strongroom.

  • Thorough Exploration: If you don’t have a guaranteed sigil, be meticulous. Clear out every part of the dungeon, defeat all enemies, and meticulously search every corner for the glowing red brazier that signifies a Horadric Gateway.

Inside the Horadric Strongroom

Once inside a Strongroom:

  • Timed Challenge: A timer (typically 100 seconds) will begin, and your goal is to defeat enemies and activate Horadric Pillars to gain Horadric Attunement.

  • Horadric Pillars: You can choose up to three Horadric Statues from these pillars, which apply different buffs or debuffs, altering the difficulty and rewards. Activating a pillar also provides a temporary buff (e.g., +2 bonus Attunement from monster kills for 10 seconds).

  • Sacrifice Shrines: These unique shrines can spawn additional enemy ambushes, offering more opportunities for Attunement.

  • Boss Encounter: Once the timer runs out or you fill the Attunement bar, a boss will appear. Defeating this boss completes the Strongroom challenge and rewards you with a Horadric Cache, containing valuable loot, including Horadric Tomes (which unlock Horadric Jewel crafting) and potentially Escalation Sigils. The quality of rewards scales with the Horadric Attunement you accumulated.

How to Farm Horadric Strongrooms Without Sigils (Exploit)

There is currently an exploit that allows you to repeatedly run a specific Horadric Strongroom without consuming Nightmare Sigils. Be aware that this is likely an unintended mechanic and could be patched out by Blizzard at any time.

Here’s the method:

  • Create a New Character: Create a new character of the same class as your main character. For example, if your main is a Spiritborn, create another Spiritborn.

  • Level to 60: With this new character, do NOT start the seasonal questline immediately. Instead, level them up to Level 60. You can achieve this by:

    • Getting boosted in The Pits.

    • Using Whisper Caches transferred from your main character (check if this is still viable for XP).

    • Grinding through Nightmare Dungeons, Helltides, or Whispers as normal.

  • Transfer Gear to New Character: Once your new character hits Level 60, switch back to your main character and place all your best gear into your Stash.

  • Equip New Character: Log back in with your new Level 60 character, retrieve the gear from the Stash, and equip it. Fully set up this new character with skills, paragon points, and seasonal powers (seasonal powers should already be unlocked account-wide if your main has them).

  • Unlock Torment Difficulty: Unlock the highest Torment difficulty you can with this new character. For example, clearing Pit 20 unlocks Torment 1. Aim for the highest possible difficulty for better rewards.

  • Set Game Difficulty: Ensure the game’s difficulty is set to the newly unlocked Torment tier.

  • Start Seasonal Questline (Specific Quest): Now, begin the seasonal questline with this new character and play through it until you reach the quest titled «The Embers Yet Smolder.» This quest will lead you directly into a specific dungeon that contains a Horadric Strongroom.

  • Run the Strongroom (Crucial Step):

    • Enter and run the Strongroom as normal: fill the progress bar, defeat the boss, and open the reward chest.

    • DO NOT pick up the Blood Relic (the quest item) that drops from the boss. If you pick it up, the quest will advance, and you won’t be able to repeat the Strongroom.

  • Log Out: Leave the Blood Relic on the ground and log out of the game.

  • Repeat: When you log back in, you will be in town. The dungeon containing the Strongroom will still be marked on your map and will have reset. Head back to the same dungeon, re-enter the Strongroom, and repeat the process from step 8.

  • Important Notes on the Exploit:

    • Temporary: This exploit is likely unintended and could be patched out by Blizzard in a future hotfix or update. Utilize it while it lasts if you choose to.

    • Seasonal Board Rewards: Since your new character has not fully unlocked the seasonal board, any rewards tied specifically to the seasonal reputation track (Horadric Knowledge) or the seasonal journey will not drop from the Strongroom chest during these repeated runs. However, you will still receive a significant amount of Legendary and Unique items.
