Diablo 4: How to Get Favor Tokens

In Diablo 4 Season 9: Sins of the Horadrim, the traditional battle pass system has been replaced by the Reliquary system. This new approach offers players more choice in how they unlock cosmetic rewards. Instead of a linear progression, rewards are categorized into different «Reliquaries,» and you use Favor Tokens to claim items from them in any order you choose.

There is always one free Reliquary (the Seasonal Pass, «Belial’s Return») available, offering various cosmetic items, including Platinum, a horse mount, mount armor, weapons, and a Town Portal. Additional Reliquaries can be purchased with Platinum, Diablo 4‘s premium currency. Notably, the free Seasonal Pass often provides enough Platinum to unlock one of the paid Reliquaries, allowing free-to-play players access to more cosmetic options.

Diablo 4: How to Get Favor Tokens

Favor Tokens are the currency you use to unlock items within the Reliquaries. Here’s how to earn them:

  • Defeating Enemies: Every enemy you defeat contributes points towards earning Favor Tokens.

    • Elites and Bosses: These enemies provide significantly more points towards Favor Tokens than regular foes.

  • Completing Quests: Finishing quests also grants a substantial amount of points for Favor Tokens.

  • Difficulty Scaling: Playing on higher difficulties (e.g., Torment I+) will allow you to face stronger enemies, which in turn yield more points towards Favor Tokens, helping you earn them much faster. If you’re playing on a lower difficulty, prioritize completing quests, as they offer a more significant boost than simply clearing regular enemies.

While the exact point value earned per enemy or quest completion is not displayed on screen, you will receive a notification every time you successfully earn a Favor Token, keeping you informed of your progress. You can hold a maximum of 99 Favor Tokens at any given time. Any additional tokens earned beyond this cap will be wasted unless you spend your current tokens. However, unspent tokens can carry over to future seasons (up to 99), giving you a head start.

How to Check Your Progress With Favor Tokens in Diablo 4

To check your current number of Favor Tokens and your progress towards the next one:

  • Pause the game to bring up the main in-game menu.

  • Navigate to the «Reliquaries» option, which is typically the second tab from the far left.

  • In this menu, you’ll see your total number of Favor Tokens and Platinum displayed in the top-right corner.

  • A small bar located directly under your Favor Token count will fill up as you defeat enemies and complete quests, visually indicating your progress towards earning your next token.

  • How to Spend Favor Tokens in Diablo 4

Favor Tokens are exclusively used for purchasing cosmetics within the Reliquary system. There’s no «wrong» way to spend them, as you can choose items in any order you prefer.

    To spend your Favor Tokens:

  • From the Reliquaries menu, select the specific Reliquary (battle pass) from which you wish to redeem an item.

  • Browse the available cosmetic rewards. Each item will display its Favor Token cost.

  • Select the item you want to unlock, and the corresponding number of Favor Tokens will be deducted from your total.

  • There are four main Reliquaries available each season:

    • Seasonal Pass («Belial’s Return»): Free for all players.

    • Weapons: Costs 200 Platinum.

    • Beasts (Pets & Mounts): Costs 500 Platinum.

    • Armor: Costs 800 Platinum.

You can purchase these premium Reliquaries individually, or often, a discounted bundle for all three premium Reliquaries is available for 1,000 Platinum. It’s important to note that if you purchase even one premium Reliquary individually, you may become locked out of the discounted bundle, potentially costing you more Platinum if you decide to buy the others later.

Cosmetics within any given Reliquary can generally be unlocked in any order you desire, giving you flexibility. However, there is typically one «Bonus Reward» in each Reliquary (marked by a lock and a star icon) that can only be unlocked after you have redeemed every other item within that specific Reliquary. This bonus item does not cost additional Favor Tokens once unlocked.
