Diablo 4: How to Get Horadric Phials

Diablo 4: How to Get Horadric Phials

In Diablo 4 Season 9: Sins of the Horadrim, Horadric Spells are a new, customizable system that allows players to tailor their magical abilities across all classes. Upgrading these spells, along with crafting Horadric Jewels, requires a new seasonal currency: Horadric Phials. Farming these phials early and efficiently is key to maximizing your seasonal power.

How to Farm Horadric Phials in Diablo 4

Horadric Phials are primarily found by defeating enemies and opening specific caches within seasonal content. While they can drop from nearly any Elite enemy and have a decent drop rate from bosses, certain activities are far more efficient for farming:

1. Helltide Events (Early to Mid-Game) Helltides offer a consistent and accessible way to farm Horadric Phials at all levels, especially early in the season. Within Helltides, focus on:

  • Killing Elites: All Elite enemies within Helltides have a chance to drop Phials.

  • Opening Chests: Collecting Aberrant Cinders to open Tortured Gift chests within Helltides can yield Phials.

  • Grim Favor Tasks: Completing Grim Favor tasks and collecting caches from the Tree of Whispers can also provide Horadric Phials.

  • Blood Maiden: Summoning and defeating the Blood Maiden using Baneful Hearts in Helltides can be a good source.

  • Threat Bar: Actively raising your Threat Bar will spawn more powerful enemies, increasing your chances of Phial drops.

2. Nightmare Dungeons & Horadric Strongrooms (Mid to End-Game) As you progress through the season and reach higher difficulties (Torment I+), Nightmare Dungeons and especially Horadric Strongrooms become the most lucrative sources for Horadric Phials.

  • Stronger Enemies: Higher-tier Nightmare Dungeons and Strongrooms contain stronger enemies that drop a greater quantity of Phials.

  • Horadric Strongrooms: These hidden mini-dungeons within Nightmare Dungeons are excellent for Phial farming. Upon completing a Strongroom, especially by achieving high rank rewards (max Horadric Attunement), the Horadric Cache at the end will drop a large sum of Horadric Phials, alongside Horadric Tomes for crafting Jewels and Escalation Sigils.

  • Nightmare Escalations: The new Escalating Nightmare Dungeons, which are a series of consecutive Nightmare Dungeons, are also highly effective. They offer increased enemy density, including more Elites, and the final boss of the Torment difficulty Escalation, Astaroth, can drop a significant amount of Phials.

3. Horadric Knowledge Rewards (Passive & Targeted) As you engage in Helltides, Nightmare Dungeons, and Horadric Strongrooms, you will passively earn Horadric Knowledge, the seasonal reputation currency.

  • Horadric Focus: By progressing through the tiers of Horadric Knowledge at the Horadric Focus (in Cerrigar, near Bryona), you can claim rewards. These rewards often include caches that contain large sums of Horadric Phials.

  • Converting Phials: While generally not recommended as a primary method for gaining Horadric Knowledge due to the high cost for a relatively small gain, you can use Horadric Phials at the Horadric Lapidary to convert them into Horadric Knowledge if you find yourself with an excess later in the season.

How Should You Spend Horadric Phials in Diablo 4?

Horadric Phials are a crucial resource for the new seasonal mechanics, and it’s important to spend them wisely:

  • Upgrading Horadric Spells: Horadric Phials are the only currency used to upgrade the various components of your Horadric Spells (Catalysts, Infusions, and Arcana). Each upgrade boosts the spell’s power and can unlock significant rank bonuses (e.g., Rank 10 for Catalysts, Rank 5 for Infusions).

    • Recommendation: It’s generally advised to not spend too many Phials early on. Experiment with different spell components as you unlock them from Horadric Strongrooms and other seasonal activities. Once you’ve found a custom spell combination that you truly like and that synergizes with your build, then commit your Phials to upgrading its components.

  • Crafting Horadric Jewels: Horadric Phials are also a key ingredient, along with Gem Fragments, for crafting Horadric Jewels at the Horadric Lapidary. These Jewels provide powerful passive effects that synergize with specific Schools of Arcana and can significantly enhance your character’s power.

    • Recommendation: Similar to spell upgrades, it’s often best to hold off on crafting many Horadric Jewels until you have a better understanding of which Jewels best complement your chosen Horadric Spells and overall build strategy. Focus on acquiring Horadric Tomes (which unlock Jewel recipes from Strongrooms) first, then craft the ones most beneficial to you.

In summary, prioritize farming Horadric Phials through high-difficulty Nightmare Dungeons and especially Horadric Strongrooms for the most efficient gains. Spend them judiciously on upgrading your preferred Horadric Spell components and crafting synergistic Horadric Jewels once you’ve solidified your build choices.
