Diego Luna Shines in New Andor Promo That Reveals What Makes Him Irreplaceable

Andor‘s success would be nothing without several key factors, including Diego Luna’s committed performance. So it’s not surprising that showrunner Tony Gilroy and actor Genevieve O’Reilly have nothing but praise for Luna’s tenure as Cassian Andor.

«Diego just gives you the instant gravitas,» Gilroy said, in a brand-new promo released by the official Star Wars YouTube channel. «We never would’ve gotten involved in the show in the first place if it wasn’t for him.» O’Reilly also praised Luna as «the perfect lead,» calling his depiction of the rebel spy’s pre-Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’s self «as wonderfully gritty and nuanced as the show. I am in awe of how he does it so subtly, charismatically, and beautifully

individual episode release strategy, Season 2 will drop three episodes per week, with each batch following a year in the life of its rebel and Imperial cast’s lives leading up to Rogue One‘s events. This includes the Rebel Alliance, with Gilroy teasing how taking this anti-Empire movement public will impact civilians around the galaxy and create a new set of problems for rebels like Andor and Luthen Rael to solve.

Andor Has Been A Hit Since Season 1

Andor‘s first season was released in 2022 to critical acclaim, with many considering it the best of Disney+’s live-action Star Wars shows since the streaming platform launched. The season explored how Cassian first became involved in rebel activities and how the fallout of this involvement radicalized him while impacting both Imperial and rebel loyalists differently.

This era was previously explored in the animated series Star Wars Rebels, with Rogue One‘s O’Reilly and Forest Whitaker reprising their roles on the show as Mon Mothma and Saw Gererra. The upcoming season will also explore how Cassian met his robotic companion K-2SO for the first time, with Alan Tudyk returning to voice the fan-favorite Imperial droid.

Post-Star Wars, Luna will star opposite Jennifer Lopez in the upcoming musical Kiss of the Spider-Woman, which premieres in 2025. The franchise’s streaming lineup, meanwhile, will continue with Tales of the Underworld and Star Wars: Visions and Ahsoka Season 2 in 2026.

Andor Season 2 premieres on April 22 on Disney+.
