Right after the Divinity AMA yesterday, Larian Studios head Swen Vincke dropped another rabbit hole for the community to fall headfirst into. «If you can figure out my header, I’ll let you ask one special question,» he told YouTuber WolfheartFPS.
His header? A snippet of a spectogram. Some tried to brute force the mystery by reading the spectogram outright (though it can’t be translated back to audio), suggesting that it could be Larian’s old logo jingle. However, one fan, u/spiceyblack, looked to the trailer for clues instead, and stumbled across a pretty interesting symbol in the audio matching the Hellstone statue, pictured at 2:28 «during the brief silence before the eruption.» It looks like Vincke’s excerpt was pulled from the audio just after the image appears. So, what’s the significance?
After nearly an hour of painstakingly learning how to view spectograms in Audacity, we were able to replicate these results.
That’s where things are less clear. Some are convinced that the Hellstone’s appearance at the 2:28 mark is hinting at a date, perhaps February 2028 or February 28, 2026. However, there are a couple of issues with this theory.
It’s unlikely that Divinity is far enough along in development for Larian to have a concrete release date, making February 2028 an unlikely candidate — even for early access. As for February 28, 2026, it would be a bit strange for a European developer to use the American date structure, but if it did, that’s still a Saturday, most likely ruling out a new trailer or a ‘Panel From Hell’ equivalent. That’s not to mention that neither date explain why Vincke pulled from audio after the Hellstone for his Twitter header.
"You Can Hear Words Being Spoken"
So, 2:28 doesn’t appear to be part of the mystery, after all, but we’re not at a dead end yet; u/Lmyer has a compelling theory that pertains to the audio itself. «If you run it through Audacity or Photosounder,» they explained, «you can hear words being spoken, but they are very unintelligble except for the opening word that sounds like Hello/Heaven or some word that starts with He».

Okay, now we’re at a dead end. If 2:28 isn’t the answer, then it looks like we have a hidden message to decipher in the trailer. Could it be a clue to the Lord of Chaos’ return, as fans theorise the trailer was hinting at? Whatever the answer might be, it’s pretty funny that not even a month after The Game Awards, we’re here puzzling together yet another bizarre mystery involving a Hellstone. At least this time it won’t send the God of War and Elder Scrolls fans into a frenzy, eh?
