The anime has finally adapted one of the most exciting moments in the Egghead Arc. In One Piece Episode 1151, Jewelry Bonney uses her Devil Fruit, the Toshi Toshi no Mi, to turn into an alternate version of Sun God Nika. However, what caught our attention wasn’t just that incredible feat, but the fact that she seemed to learn Armament Haki, just by Luffy’s demand.
This makes Jewelry Bonney a natural talent, considering she’s only 12 years old. The Toshi Toshi no Mi is a complicated but versatile Devil Fruit. It’s tough to follow exactly what she can or can’t do. So, let’s analyze how her Devil Fruit enabled her to learn Armament Haki on the spot, along with why it’s more powerful than it sounds on the surface.
Luffy May Have Encouraged Bonney Into Learning Haki in One Piece
Episode 1151 featured an intense battle, one that was basically impossible to win. Luffy faced off against Marcus Mars, in Itsumade’s Awakened Beast Form, who cannot be physically hurt due to their immortality. That’s exactly why Bonney transformed into Nika in the first place: to assist in Luffy’s fight and give him more of an advantage.
Still, an Awakened Marcus Mars is a tough battle. He ruthlessly unleashed fire beams at everyone, and Luffy knew this wasn’t a fight he could win alone. He enlists the Straw Hats to hit him as hard as they can from the back while he’s inflated, as the momentum of it could blast Mars away into the sky. Sanji and Franky answer his call, but they need one more person.
Jewelry Bonney initially calls Luffy crazy for his plan, but he encourages her. She inflates her arm in the same way Luffy does in Gear 5 form, but it gets infused with Armament Haki. She, along with Sanji and Franky, hit him hard enough that his plan works and Mars is out of the picture (for now).

What remains a mystery is how Bonney instantly knew how to use Armament Haki and mastered it, when it takes some of the best characters years to achieve it. Luffy’s encouragement and the urgency of the situation were the key to unlocking it. In Chapter 1121, she even punches Saturn and knocks him out. So, how does she do it?
Jewelry Bonney Is More Powerful Than Her Age Gives Away

Bonney might be 12 years old, but the Toshi Toshi no Mi is practically a hack. With it, she can manipulate the ages of any person or object, which is why she appeared to be a young adult throughout One Piece, until Vegapunk revealed her true age.
We’ve seen Bonney use it in several ways. Most commonly, she deages her enemy and uses it to overpower them. It explains why she was able to become a part of the Worst Generation, despite not having a ton of experience. She can also manipulate her own age to disguise herself, which she used to infiltrate Mary Geoise, a feat not many have done.
The most useful and broken ability of the Toshi Toshi no Mi is in Episode 1151. Bonney can distort the future and explore alternative timelines where her physique is different. In one possibility, she resembles Kuma’s Buccaneer physique. The most powerful version is Nika Mitaina Mirai, which grants her the same powers and abilities that Luffy’s Gear 5 unlocks.
Overall, Bonney isn’t someone to take lightly, just because she’s 12 years old with a tragic backstory. The Toshi Toshi no Mi can imagine any scenario and make it into a reality for her. That’s how she instantly knew Armament Haki and was proficient with it. It’s an incredible power that can damage enemies, buff Bonney, and also help allies.
