Review
Solo Leveling season 2 is frequently described as one of the best anime series in recent years, and its second season recently began airing in winter 2024 and just ended in spring 2025. Season two was an absolute hit and has resulted in Solo Leveling being nominated for Crunchyroll’s highly sought-after Anime of the Year award. After season two’s conclusion, fans were left wondering when Solo Leveling season three would be released, eager for more installments to the anime adaptation of the popular fantasy web novel.
Recently, Sota Furuhashi, producer of Solo Leveling, finally broke the silence surrounding season 3 of the anime, and many fans were less than satisfied with the news. A post on @SoloLevelAnime chronicled Furuhashi’s statement about the upcoming season 3, in which he explained he would like for Solo Leveling’s hiatus to last at least a few years. Although this revelation at first seemed to suggest there was no chance Solo Leveling would release before 2028, Furuhashi’s comment is not ironclad proof that the wait will last this long.
Solo Leveling Season 3 May Come Out Before 2028 After All
Furuhashi's Comments About the Season Debuting by the Next Olympics Could Refer to the 2026 Olympics
Although Sota Furuhashi’s recent remarks noted that he would prefer until 2028 to work on the upcoming third season, his words, «if it were up to me,» indicate that he is not the only individual on Solo Leveling’s team responsible for making this decision. Although Furuhashi may choose to have Solo Leveling’s third season begin airing in 2028, ultimately, the final choice is likely not entirely up to him. He even mentioned that the official release date for Solo Leveling season 3 is «more up to Kaneko and A-1 Pictures,» who could potentially choose an earlier time than 2028.
“I think more than anyone, I am anxiously awaiting a Season 3! But in truth, between Season 1 and Season 2, 220,000 frames of animation were created. So, if it were up to me, I’d say let’s wait until the next Olympics (2028) to see what’s going to happen with a Season 3. But I think that’s more up to Kaneko and A-1 Pictures.” — Sota Furahashi, Solo Leveling
Another aspect of Sota Furuhashi’s comments that sparked speculation was the fact that he hinted at waiting «until the next Olympics» for season three of Solo Leveling to be made available. Although many fans made the assumption that Furuhashi was referring to 2028’s Summer Olympics, there is also a substantial chance that he was instead alluding to the 2026 Winter Olympics, which would mean that Solo Leveling could potentially hit screens as soon as 2026, which is only roughly a year away.
Solo Leveling's Past Release Patterns Suggest a 2026 Release, Rather Than 2028
There Was a Gap of One Year Between the First Two Seasons of Solo Leveling, Released in 2024 and 2025
It is impossible to predict exactly when Solo Leveling season 3 will debut, but considering the gap between seasons 1 and 2 of the anime, an earlier release date could be likely. Solo Leveling season 1 aired on January 7, 2024, for the first time, and a little under one year later, on January 5, 2025, season 2 aired. When looking at these past patterns, it appears increasingly likely that there will be a one-year hiatus between season 2 and 3, just like the prior two seasons, rather than a lengthy wait of over three years until 2028.
Furuhashi explained that a total of «220,000 frames of animation» were produced across the first two seasons of Solo Leveling, which indicates that the first 26 episodes of the anime were a massive undertaking that required considerable time and effort. Solo Leveling earned its status as one of the best anime series ever in only a few years, largely because of its high-quality animation, writing, and design, so it will take a while for season three to meet that same standard. Whether Solo Leveling season three comes in 2026 or 2028, it will be well worth the wait either way.
