According to rumours, the Dragon Ball franchise is getting a new movie which will be based on Vegeta and his intriguing past in the storyline.
Son Goku has long stood as the face of Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball series, but one rival has steadily emerged as the franchise’s unofficial main character. He is none other than the Prince of the Saiyan race, Vegeta. What’s disappointing is that despite being such a significant character, the series has never given him his props. However, this might change soon, according to rumours.
It is reported by @mymixtapez on X that a new Dragon Ball movie based on Vegeta’s history and his past might be released next year. While there has not been any confirmation from the officials yet, fans are already excited about this, as Vegeta has a separate fanbase of his own who believe that he deserves this more than anyone else.
Is Vegeta Finally Getting the Importance He Deserves?
When Vegeta was first introduced to the Dragon Ball storyline, he was a villain who wanted to destroy Earth because it was a mission from Frieza to gather the Dragon Balls and conquer the planet. However, after being defeated by Goku, Vegeta’s allegiance to Frieza changed, and he slowly became a supporting character who joined the warriors of Earth in saving the planet. Eventually, he reached a point where he was the second most important character after Goku.
However, despite all that, it still felt to many Dragon Ball fans that Vegeta was living in Goku’s shadow and thus needed a special arc that is entirely focused on him being the protagonist. This might finally come true with the rumors about the Saiyan Prince getting a special movie about his past that will allegedly be released in 2026. The rumours also suggested that the details about this movie will be released during the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event.

The event is being organized to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the franchise, and it will feature a live announcement for a brand-new Dragon Ball game, along with other major project announcements. Thus, the Vegeta movie feels like a possibility, but nothing can be officially confirmed until Toei Animation or other significant authorities of the Dragon Ball franchise confirm it.

A New Dragon Ball Project Is Exactly What the Franchise Needs
The Dragon Ball series has served as the pillar for the anime and manga industry for decades. However, since the demise of legendary manga creator Akira Toriyama, the franchise has taken a step back, and this has resulted in a major downfall for the fame and recognition that it has developed for so many years. Thus, it needs a new project that could help the franchise once again stand on the pedestal that it once stood upon.
While there have been other projects like Dragon Ball DAIMA, they haven’t fully met fan expectations and thus have failed to capture the scale, ambition, and emotional depth the franchise once delivered. It needs a grand movie or series based around a majorly important character like Vegeta to help it get back on its feet. But without Toriyama, it won’t be as easy as it sounds.
