Dragon's Dogma 2 is an incredible fantasy tale headlined by intense, emotional moments that reach a crescendo during one of the game's endings. However, the Dragon's Dogma 2 true ending is unlike the others, allowing you to forego the standard, straightforward resolution in favor of something much more complex.
Though the item you need to initiate the ending might be right under your nose, the method of using that item and initiating Dragon's Dogma 2's true ending is a bit more complicated than meets the eye. Prepare to face the true dragon and flip the cycle between Arisen and the dragon on its head.
Updated April 13, 2024, by Andrew Scariati: The Dragon's Dogma 2 true ending elongates your adventure and ends the dreaded cycle between dragon and Arisen. We've added more details about how to complete the quests in the Unmoored World with this Dragon's Dogma 2 true ending guide.
What Is The True Ending?
The Dragon's Dogma 2 true ending is a unique climax and epilogue that foregoes the standard ending and demands that your adventure continue unexpectedly.
However, the true ending is not automatically triggered by making a series of choices throughout the game.
Instead, you must assist Ambrosius in making a new godsway, and begin The Guardian Gigantus quest that takes you to the game's conclusion.
By assisting Ambrosius, you have the most important thing you need to initiate the true ending: the Empowered Godsbane Blade.
How Do You Get The True Ending?
When you reach Phaesus and begin the Legacy quest, you'll be face to face with the dragon who took your beating heart from your chest.
The dragon gives you an option: fight or flee with your life.
You must choose to fight the dragon, as is foretold by the cycle, to achieve the true ending.
Once you've made a choice, you'll be on the dragon's back as it flies through the sky toward the final arena where you will battle.
The dragon will begin waxing philosophical about you, the cycle, and your eternal struggle, but don't be distracted by his rambling.
While the dragon is talking, you must crawl from the dragon's back toward his head, then shimmy down his sides to his chest.
Position yourself directly on the dragon's glowing spot where its heart is, then go into your item menu.
Use the Empowered Godsbane Blade from your item menu in the spot where the dragon's heart is.
When you use the Empowered Godsbane Blade, you'll have another confirmation animation where you must use it on yourself.
Once you use the Empowered Godsbane Blade on yourself, you are locked into the Dragon's Dogma 2 true ending.
Be sure you've already experienced the other endings (if you want) before beginning the true ending.
What Happens After You Start The True Ending?
Once you've used the Empowered Godsbane Blade and watched a series of dramatic cutscenes, you'll be dropped into the Unmoored World – a red, desolate, intimidating version of the same world you've just explored.
The world is similar to the lands you've come to know, but it is ravaged by destruction as it awaits the coming end of the world.
This is the start of the Dragon's Dogma 2 true ending.
The Unmoored World no longer allows oxcart travel , so you must use Ferrystones to get around the map .
Luckily, more portcrystals are unlocked in important locations.
Your adventure is now much further from being over than it would have been if you had chosen to go ahead with one of the other endings.
Complete Halls Of The First Dawn
With the Dragon's Dogma 2 true ending now triggered, you're left to explore the world in its current state by The Pathfinder – the mysterious figure who brought you here.
The Halls Of The First Dawn quest will trigger, requiring you to return to the major NPCs you've come to know and trust on your journey, and they will guide you along the final quests as you complete Dragon's Dogma 2's true ending.
From here, you can trigger the final sequence in one of two ways:
- Rest enough to pass about 10-12 in-game days.
- Evacuate the five settlements and defeat the five Purgener bosses in the Unmoored World.
Defeating the Purgener bosses will also slow , then stop the progression of the red storm that's fast approaching.
Once you defeat enough Purgener bosses to trigger the final beam of light, you can complete the Dragon's Dogma 2 true ending by activating the beam.
Or, if the storm is otherwise left unchecked by allowing the Purgener bosses to live (ignoring the beams of light), it will envelop the world and trigger the ending.
You can choose to evacuate as many settlements as you would like , but you must evacuate all five to complete the Halls Of The First Dawn quest.
The locations evacuated will have an impact on your ending cutscenes .
Once you've finished evacuating and defeating bosses, buy whatever items you may need for your next adventure from the vendors at Seafloor Shrine before jumping into New Game Plus.
